UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta journey to reach Public University with Legal Entity (PTNBH) inspired Universitas Negeri Surabaya (Unesa) to pay a visit to the only public university in Surakarta. In the visit, Unesa team was led by the Rector of Unesa, Prof. Nurhasan, and welcomed directly by the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, and the team in UNS Inn, Tuesday (2/3/2021).
UNS is the youngest university to receive PTBH status, which encourages Unesa to learn from UNS how to achieve PTNBH status. The visit was opened by a remark from UNS and Unesa Rectors, followed by UNS presentation, and concluded with a questions and answers session.
In his remark, the Rector of Unesa, Prof. Nurhasan stated that one of the visit’s purposes is to learn from UNS on becoming PTNBH at a young age. “We want to learn from UNS, what are the required documents, how the preparation, and what UNS strategies are,” Prof. Nurhasan conveyed.
In his presentation, the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho stated that the UNS journey to achieve PTNBH is a long process. “UNS was established in 1976, became PTN Badan Layanan Umum (BLU) (red: Public Service Institution) in 2009. Alhamdulillah on 6 October 2020 through Presidential Decree (Perpres) Number 56 of 2020, UNS was designated as PTNBH. Thus, since 2016 we started the application process, the following year start preparing self-evaluation, academic document, Rencana Pembangunan Jangka Panjang (RPJP) (Red: Long-term Development Plan), and transitional rules,” Prof. Jamal explained.
The Rector of UNS added that at the beginning of 2018, there had been designation meetings in Jakarta and Solo. Then in 2019, an inter-ministerial discussion was conducted, which resulted in Presidential Decree (Kepres) Number 11 of 2019 signed on 6 October 2020. Prof. Jamal also shared UNS strategies in its acceleration to achieve PTNBH. The strategy includes the target to have 120 new doctors by 2020. UNS also provided a stimulus for its Faculty Members and students who published a scientific paper in Scopus journal.
“At the beginning of 2020, Faculty Members who have not taken doctoral decree were sent to study for free by UNS. There is a special program with quality assurance. We also open opportunities for other university faculty members who want to join UNS, but they must have a doctoral degree,” he stated.
Through this visit, Prof. Nurhasan hoped to follow the UNS example in achieving PTNBH status. Moreover, with its 45th anniversary, UNS has been able to compete with far older universities in Indonesia. Humas UNS
