UNS – With a topic of sustainable wood processing, the Undergraduate in Architecture Study Program, Faculty of Engineering (FT), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, in partnership with Sampoerna Kayoe, held a General Lecture on Thursday (12/3/2020) in 1st Studio Architecture Study Program UNS. The General Lecture, which was attended by Architecture students from various classes, aims to broaden students’ insight on techniques and new products from wood processing, but still considering its sustainability.
The Head of Undergraduate in Architecture Study Program, Dr. Untung Joko Cahyono, said that a General Lecture is a routine agenda held every month. On this occasion, the speakers invited were from Sampoerna Kayoe. “Usually, if the students only follow a classroom lecture they will get bored. Therefore, we always organize a general lecture, at least within a month there were one or two general lectures.”
In this era, the need for processed wood products is increasing, thus the raw material availability needs to be fulfilled. The company (Sampoerna Kayoe), has been operating for 40 years in the wood industry, always prioritize sustainability in their production. The Head of Marketing Sampoerna Kayoe, Christine Suhartini, explained that their processed wood products are durable and have good quality. “In the production process, when a tree is cut down as a raw material we will prepare new tree seedlings to remain sustainable. Further, our product can be used many times, for instance, film-faced plywood products that can be used up to 13 times,” she said.
The General Lecture that lasted for 2 hours was followed by students with great enthusiasm. Various questions were asked to Sampoerna Kayoe as speakers. One of the students from the 6th semester appreciates the Study Program for organizing a General Lecture. This event is highly useful as it can add knowledge and insight for students, especially for the new students. “This General Lecture is useful, I can understand more about wood products available,” said Ilham.
