Dean of FEB UNS Invites UNS Academic Members to Support Knowledge-Based Economy

UNS — In order to accomplish a strong economy, the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Prof. Drs. Djoko Suhardjanto, M.Com.Hons)., Ph.D., Ak., invites the UNS academic members to support the Knowledge-Based Economy. This message was conveyed in his direction, delivered during the UNS Morning Briefing Monday (9/5/2022). Prof. Djoko said that today, a country with a strong and large economy is a country based on technology and data. No longer depends on Natural Resources. This condition becomes the main reason why a Knowledge-Based Economy should be supported. “In the past, we taught students about the economy based on Natural Resources, now, let’s turn to a Knowledge-Based Economy,” he said.

What is needed today are the 4 (four) aspects known as the Knowledge-Based Economy, namely the education system, creativity and innovation, knowledge management, and communication infrastructure and information technology. In the era of society 4.0, computerization and digitalization have been implemented massively. This transformation also applies to Higher Education’s Tri Dharma activities, including teaching, research, and community service. Prof. Djoko also said that during this pandemic, there had been a tremendous transformation from direct to virtual activities, which was certainly supported by information technology.

Similarly, with startups business, there is a chance that newly established corporations can defeat giant corporations. For example, in Indonesia, there are Gojek and Grab that have far defeated Garuda Indonesia or Blue Bird in valuation. The two corporations have transformed into a new force in ASEAN because it holds the consumers’ Big Data and advanced information technology.

At the end of his instruction, Prof. Djoko hopes that UNS can become the Rising Star University in the World, become a top reputable university, and at the same time requests the participants’ blessing for the opening of a new Study Program at FEB UNS, namely the Undergraduate in Digital Business Study Program as a real effort in facing the current era of disruption. “Hopefully, this new study program establishment can meet the Indonesia President’s expectation when inaugurating the Ki Hadjar Dewantara Tower, in which a Higher Education must be responsive and move quickly to answer the challenges of the times,” said Prof. Djoko.
