UNS – Development Economics S-1 Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held the Seventh Nationality Discussion Forum with the theme “Neuroscience Perspective in Economics”.
The event was held offline at the Suhardi Building FEB UNS and broadcast live via the Faculty of Economics and Business UNS Youtube on Tuesday (30/5/2023).
The event presented speakers dr. Ryu Hasan, Sp. BS., as a neurosurgeon and neuroscience enthusiast. Neuroscience is the study of the nervous system and brain function. Some scientists and economists believe that understanding the cognitive processes and human behavior that underlie economic decision making can be enhanced through knowledge of neuroscience.
In his remarks, the Interim Head of the Development Economics S-1 Study Program FEB UNS, Bhimo Rizky Samudro, S.E., M.Si,. Ph.D., said that through a discussion forum like this, it would discuss discourses that were heterodox in nature and anti-mainstream discourses. The hope is that it can enrich discourse and discussions at FEB UNS, especially in the Development Economics major.
“We offer fellow students that in thinking about or using economics it should be more holistic, broader and related to other dimensions of science. For example, if we relate it to today’s event, then we try to think from a neuroeconomic perspective,” he said.
Meanwhile, dr. Ryu Hasan as the speaker gave a presentation on economics from a neuroscience perspective that can move humans more efficiently and effectively in getting calories to reduce entropy.
“In the scope of neuroscience, there is one study in it, namely neuroeconomics. Neuroeconomics is an interdisciplinary study that seeks to find out how a person makes decisions, especially regarding his economic behavior in relation to brain function, and how discoveries in the field of neuroscience can limit and help economic models,” he explained.
