UNS — A student from the Accounting Study Program, the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, was succeeded to be the single winner in Pilar Pedia Essay Championship. In the championship organized by the Executive Student Board (BEM) of the Faculty of Social Studies (FIS), Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ), Afifah Ma’wa, a student of the Accounting Study Program FEB UNS, wrote an essay entitled ‘Implementation of Critical Thinking Practice in Optimizing Smart Mother Role in Creating a Golden Generation’.
“In my essay, I try to provide a solution for the low critical thinking implementation in the education process in Indonesia,” Afifah revealed during an interview with uns.ac.id on Thursday (17/9/2020). Further, she elaborated that implementing critical thinking in early childhood will affect children’s thinking process. Therefore, it will create a golden generation to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2045. This wonderful achievement cannot be separated from the preparations made by Afifah, which takes 2 weeks. Afifah states that to prepare the essay, she had to collect various journals/publications to read.
“I am certain that by reading more I will get new ideas from the previous research. I also ask for other’s opinions regarding the content of the essay I wrote,” she explains. Another thing that makes Afifah more confident is that previously she had written some essay with a similar topic before competing in the Pilar Media Essay Championship, thus, once BEM FIS UNJ organizes the championship, Afifah quickly apply as a participant.
Even though the championship was held online due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, but Afifah realizes that the spirit to remain productive must be maintained. She also hopes that her fellow students can take advantage of the various opportunities that exist to be creative to hone one’s abilities.
“In this current pandemic condition, it is not a reason for us to stay silent without doing anything positive or productive. Even if we are just staying home, but I hope, we as a student, can stay creative according to our interests and talents. Stay healthy and hopefully, this pandemic will pass quickly,” she wishes.
