FEB UNS Welcomed a Visit from STIESIA Executive Board

UNS — The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta welcomed the visit from Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Ekonomi Indonesia Surabaya (STIESIA) in Teleconference Room FEB UNS, Thursday (15/10/2020). The visit from STIESIA aims to better understand the implementation of Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) curriculum in FEB UNS.

The entourage was led by the Head of STIESIA, Dr. Nur Fadjrih Asyik, SE, M.Si., Ak was welcomed by the Dean, Vice Deans, the Head of Undergraduate Program, the Head of Partnership Unit, Chief of Administration Department, and the Chief of Academic Sub-Section FEB UNS by implementing health protocol. After delivering a welcoming remark and introduce the executive board that attended the occasion, the Dean of FEB UNS, Prof. Djoko Suhardjanto explained about the profile of FEB UNS and its achievements from national and international collaboration, national and international accreditation, and the role of its notable alumni.

In term of Merdeka Belajar (Independent Learning), students join learning process in the campus for five semesters and have three semesters to join out of the campus learning, in another program, another university, in another region, or even in the industry. This can be implemented through eight activities, namely student exchange, internship or work practices, teaching assistant in education unit, research, humanity project, entrepreneurship, independent study or project, and village development or thematic community service program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata Tematik).

Prof. Djoko stated that FEB UNS has implemented the MBKM activities, for example in this semester for three programs, Management, Accounting, and Development Economics FEB UNS have collaborated and conducted student exchange with other universities. FEB UNS also has a collaboration with several companies, such as Sritex and Indonesian Logistics and Forwarding Association (Asosiasi Logistik dan Forwarding Indonesia – ALFI).

The Vice-Dean for Academic Affairs FEB UNS, Dr. Izza Mafruhah stated that the initial step taken by UNS in implementing MBKM is by amending Rector Decree, especially concerning the management of the undergraduate program. Then, taking this regulation as a legal umbrella, a guideline for 8 activities surrounding kampus merdeka program is prepared.

“From the eight activities, we prepared a guideline and the process flow, for example, the process flow for the internship, village assistance or research which each program might have differences, depends on their focus. What increasingly important is strengthening communication with alumni because they have great potential to assist in MBKM implementation. In MBKM, the Program, academic supervisor, and recognition team have important roles,” Dr. Izza explained.

Dr. Izza also emphasized that the program has the courage to conduct restructuration of the curriculum even though the main curriculum will still exist to facilitate students who choose not to study outside of the campus. The discussion was very interactive and concluded by the exchange of souvenir from both FEB UNS and STIESIA.
