UNS — The Medicine Education Program Faculty of Medical Science (FK) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held National Seminar on “Anatomy Learning (Medical Science) amid the Pandemic and in the Future: Challenges and Opportunities”, offline and online through Zoom Cloud Meeting, Wednesday (14/10/2020). The national seminar was held to commemorate the World Anatomy Day which falls every 15 October.
Three speakers were invited by the Medicine Education Program FK UNS in this national seminar. These speakers are dr. Zainuri Sabta Nugraha, M. Sc from the Department of Anatomy FK Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII), dr. Nur Arfian, Ph. D from the Department of Anatomy Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FKKMK) Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) Yogyakarta, and Fendi Aji Purnomo, S. Si, M. Eng from Diploma Program of Informatics Engineering Vocational School (SV) UNS.
In this occasion, dr. Zainuri Sabta Nugraha, M. Sc delivered his material on “The Effective Online Method for Anatomy Learning”. He stated that several strategies can be implemented by teachers during online learning by focusing the learning material on the content, put forward the learning process and promote critical thinking.
“There other teaching strategies such as increasing the effectiveness of independent learning using asynchronized learning media, utilizing technology-based resources to increase the effectiveness of online learning media, and utilizing internet resources (e-learning) using lms, cms, and CAL,” dr. Zainuri Sabta Nugraha, M. Sc. explained. Many platforms can be used by a university teacher to prepare and formulate teaching materials. dr. Zainuri Sabta Nugraha, M. Sc gave the example of simple video making application such as Filmora and Kinemaster. University teacher also can learn how to use the editing software for PC such as Macromedia Flash, Adobe Premier Pro, Adobe After Effect, and Animate.
Adding to the material delivered by dr. Zainuri Sabta Nugraha, M. Sc., Fendi Aji Purnomo, S. Si, M. Eng stated that anatomy learning in the modern era can be conducted by utilizing the Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality (AR/VR) technology. This, according to Fendi Aji Purnomo, S. Si, M. Eng can provide a sense of being in the laboratory or conducting practice for university students, without the use of cadaver. “It makes user interact with the environment in the cyberspace simulated through a computer so that users feel as if they are in the environment,” Fendi Aji Purnomo, S. Si, M. Eng. stated. He also added that the AR/VR technology provides confidence for medical personnel when dealing directly with the patient. He gave the example of medical personnel readiness in Covid-19 handling. The AR/VR technology assists physicians and nurses in handling Covid-19 appropriately. By providing virtual simulation, medical personnel can learn the correct way of handling Covid-19 patient without direct contact.
The next speaker, dr. Nur Arfian, Ph. D delivered material on the creative, innovative, and interesting way to learn anatomy online so that university student can learn comfortably with enthusiasm. A technological approach by the teacher is considered as an important matter by dr. Nur Arfian, Ph. D because students are more familiar with social media and YouTube. “Innovation and creation. Make something new and choose different means. Shows the unique side. Be the way you are and be free don’t force it,” he stated.
He also stated that anatomy learning should be connected to Merdeka Belajar program promoted by the Minister of Education and Culture (Mendikbud) RI, Nadiem Makarim. In the anatomy learning process, educators need to develop 3D props and teaching industry, for example through the commercialization of a product, mannequin, and application. Humas UNS
