UNS – The Faculty of Cultural Studies (FIB) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta establishes the Center of Excellent Vorstenlanden Study Laboratory. The inauguration of the laboratory was carried out by the Head of History Study Program FIB, Dr. Sutanto, Wednesday (13/02/2020) in the Vorstenlanden Study Laboratory.

The inauguration was attended by all Faculty members from History Study Program Program FIB UNS and several students who manage the Laboratory of History studies. Dr. Sutanto mentioned that the Vorstenlanden Study Laboratory is basically a center of studies and historical information of Vorstenlanden, managed by the History Study Program FIB UNS.

This laboratory is established to support the learning activity of the UNS students and to become a reference for those who are seeking historical information, especially on the topics related to the study on the kingdom in Yogyakarta and Solo Region. The Vorstenlanden Study Laboratory is established because the region that was previously known as Mataram has a strong multicultural history. Furthermore, in Vorstenlanden area there are various problems in term of land, law, politic, and the governmental impact from the former kingdom can still be felt until today, thus Vorstenlanden study remains relevant.

“In the future, this laboratory will study the contents of the Rijksblad van Soerakarta en Mangkoenagaran as well as the Rijksblad van Jogjakarta en Pakoealaman, and expert, this will be implemented gradually because this source has not been widely used,” explained Dr. Sutanto.

There is a unique fact behind the establishment of the laboratory, which was already planned since July 2019. The establishment date on February 13th, 2020 was based on the historical event that happened on 265 years ago, where the Giyanti Agreement was brought to implementation between the Sunan Pakubuwana III and Pangeran (Prince) Mangkubumi that leads to the establishment of new two Kingdoms the Kasunanan Surakarta and Kasultanan Yogyakarta. Since that day, the period of Mataram Kingdom has ended and the region name is changed to Vorstenlanden. Humas UNS/Ratri
