UNS – Ten students from five programs in the Faculty of Cultural Studies (FIB) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta joined the selection of outstanding students for bachelor degree of 2020. The event was held in ex-dean FIB room, Wednesday (4/3/2020), aimed to screen students with outstanding potential in academic and non-academic field.
The vice-dean of Student and Alumni Affairs, Dr. Henry Yustanto stated that each program sent two representatives, two winners will be selected to represent the faculty at the university level. After went through the document selection on Sunday, the next stage is presentation of scientific writing and English interview.
The ten finalists came from Indonesian literature, Arabic literature, and English literature, Local literature, and history science program have to give a presentation of their scientific writing in front of the juries for ten minutes. One of the finalists, Hafiz felt nervous when meeting with the juries, especially during English interview. Various preparations have been done by this Arabic literature program student.
“Before the selection, I have prepared myself by learning how to communicate using English and studying the scientific writing I submitted. Even though I have done several preparations, during the interview I still feel nervous. Well, it is a competition. But, overall, it went smoothly, Alhamdulillah,” Hafiz said.
The series of selection process will not stop at the faculty level, but it will continue until the national level. The aspects assessed in this selection are academic and non-academic achievements, Grade Point Average (GPA), scientific writing, and foreign language ability. The achievement that can be attached can be in the form of competition championship, seminar speaker, intellectual property rights ownership, organizational achievement, committee chairman, and other types of achievements. There are levels of achievement and each level has different score, international and national level achievement has different score. All assessment aspects will be accumulated and the outstanding student from every aspect will be selected.
Dr. Henry Yustanto, M.Hum. stated that all finalists who participate in the faculty level selection are students selected from each program. After selected two winners, FIB will provide assistance until the university level selection.
“There will be assistance for scientific writing and English interview for two winners, it is expected that students from FIB who participate in the university level selection will have higher chance of winning,” stated Dr. Henry. Humas UNS/Bayu
