FK UNS Radiology Residency Program Holds Community Service Activity at Solo’s Car Free Day

UNS – In commemoration of International Radiology Day, celebrated every November 8th and coinciding with the Indonesian Doctors Association’s (Ikatan Dokter Indonesia, or IDI) anniversary, the Radiology Residency Program of the Faculty of Medicine of Universitas Sebelas Maret (FK UNS) Surakarta organized a community service activity. This was presented in the form of a talk show on radiology and free health check-ups for the public, including blood pressure checks, blood sugar, and uric acid examinations. The event took place on Sunday (12/11/2023) at Car Free Day on Slamet Riyadi Street in Solo.

The enthusiasm of the Solo community to check their health was very high, as evidenced by the dozens of people queuing for examinations by resident doctors from the FK UNS Radiology Residency Program.

The Dean of FK UNS, Prof. Dr. Reviono, dr., Sp.P(K), who attended and opened the event, strongly supported activities that could benefit the community. “As the leader in the Faculty of Medicine, of course, I support activities like this because one of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education is community service,” Prof. Reviono explained.

Prof. Reviono further stated that education teaches three things in community service. “First, how to introduce research findings and convey them to the public; second, how to apply the knowledge gained from lecturers or consultants and practice their expertise in the community; and third, in specific cases such as disaster management, and so on,” he explained.

In his remarks, the Deputy Director of Dr. Moewardi Hospital Services, dr. Heri Dwi Purnomo, Sp.An., urged doctors to also take care of their health so that they can provide optimal service when serving the community.

“I hope that you all also take care of your health. There are two things that must be maintained. First is the spirit – the spirit to learn and work in service. The second is maintaining physical strength to provide maximum service,” he said.

The Head of the Radiology Study Program at FK UNS, dr. Rachmi Fauziah Rahayu, Sp.Rad. (K), hoped that community service activities like this could provide education to the public and raise awareness about health.

“My hope is that this morning’s social service has many benefits for Solo and surrounding communities, especially in cases of cancer. And this also coincides with National Health Day, celebrated every November 12th,” Dr. Rachmi said.

The event also invited the Lovely Pink Solo (LPS) Foundation, a community of breast cancer survivors in the city of Solo. Humas UNS
