UNS— The Faculty of Medicine (FK) of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, through the Specialist Doctor Education Program (PPDS), once again released new specialist doctors who have completed their education at FK UNS. The event was attended by the Acting Vice Rector for Academic Affairs and Student Affairs of UNS, Prof. Dr. Ir. Ahmad Yunus, M.S.; Dean of FK UNS, Prof. Dr. Reviono, dr., Sp.P(K); vice deans of FK UNS; Deputy Director of Dr. Moewardi Surakarta Hospital, Dr. Heri Dwi Purnomo, Sp.An.; Deputy Director of Education and Research of UNS Hospital, Tonang Dwi Ardyanto, Sp.P.K., Ph.D.; as well as all Heads of the PPDS Study Programs at FK UNS. The release of new specialist doctors was held at the Soetjipto Auditorium of FK UNS on Thursday (21/3/2024).

In this release of specialist doctors for the March period, FK UNS released a total of seven new specialist doctors. It should be noted that among the seven participants, there is one recipient of the Ministry of Health Study Task scholarship, and to date, the number of graduates who have received the Ministry of Health Study Task scholarship is 347.

Based on the academic report read by the Acting Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Research, and Student Affairs of FK UNS, Dr. Paramasari Dirgahayu, Ph.D., the seven participants in the release consisted of one from the Cardiovascular and Vascular Program, one from the Dermatology and Venereology Program, one from the Anesthesiology and Intensive Therapy Program, and four from the Clinical Pathology Program.

In this release, there are three participants with the highest Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA), achieved by Shigma Putra Mahaley, dr., Sp.J.P. from the Cardiovascular and Vascular PPDS Program, Ruth Indah Kurniawati, dr., Sp. P.K., and Pusparini Habsari, dr., Sp. P.K., both from the Clinical Pathology Program, all of whom achieved a CGPA of 3.79.

Meanwhile, the youngest graduate in this PPDS release is Nathania Amelinda, dr., Sp.D.V. from the Dermatology and Venereology Program, who graduated at the age of 33 years and 8 months.

Representing the graduates, Dr. Adi Kurniawan, Sp. An-Ti, conveyed a message to his colleagues not to become complacent because holding the title of specialist doctor does not mean stopping learning and serving.

“I invite all of you not to be complacent. A new field of struggle awaits us. Let us dedicate ourselves to the best of our abilities, always maintaining professionalism towards patients with respect and compassion. Let us not forget to actively participate in scientific activities and training to maintain our professionalism and skills,” he said.

Deputy Director of Services, Dr. Moewardi Regional Hospital, dr. Heri Dwi Purnomo, Sp.An., advised the new specialist doctors not to stop learning and to continue expanding their knowledge.

“I hope that all of you will not be tired and bored of learning. Secondly, there is the issue of behavior. Usually, when one holds the title of specialist doctor, they may feel they have reached a different level. My hope is that the higher a person’s education level, the better their behavior, especially in terms of courtesy and respect, particularly towards the elderly,” he said.

The Dean of FK UNS, Prof. Dr. Reviono, dr., Sp.P(K), in his speech, conveyed that to become a good doctor, one must be a professional.

“In professionalism, there are several components, such as competence. You have all been provided with sufficient competence in every medical skill or diagnostic method. We have also shown how to take responsibility in the profession. We have also taught about patient safety, so all of these are assets to becoming professionals,” Prof. Reviono said.

Furthermore, Prof. Reviono also advised the new specialist doctors, who are now alumni, to uphold the good name of UNS and to continue maintaining good relations with colleagues and almamaters.

With the release of specialist doctors for the March period, FK UNS, since its establishment in 1976, has graduated 1.855 specialist doctors, who are now spread across the country and have dedicated their knowledge to various institutions in healthcare services, education, research, as well as being specialist doctors in government, private, military/police, and other sectors.
