FKIP UNS Discuss Cross Study Program and External University Learning

UNS – The Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta organizes socialization on the ‘Merdeka Belajar’ Program initiated by the Minister of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) of the Republic of Indonesia, Thursday (2/7/2020) through a Zoom Cloud Meeting. The event was attended by more than 300 FKIP UNS students from the 2018 and 2019 class.

On this occasion, the ‘Merdeka Belajar’ program was presented by Prof Dr. Slamet Subiyantoro, M.Si., the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs FKIP UNS, and Dr. Djono, M.Pd., as the Vice Dean for Students and Alumni Affairs. Prof. Slamet Subiyantoro, M.Si., who usually known as Prof. Bi hopes that FKIP UNS can determine their own choice to study in their original study program or another study program, for 3 semesters.

“Hopefully later, students can choose their own programs, whether they take ’Merdeka Belajar’ program or staying at their original study program,” Prof. Bi reveals.

In the ‘Kampus Merdeka-Merdeka Belajar’ (KM-MB) Program, there are several new education paradigms, in which studying was a requirement, closed system, and teacher as the teacher as a transmitter of information and knowledge, now studying become a fascinating experience, open system, and teacher as the facilitator in the learning process. Education, now, is more focused on soft skill and character development.

When a student chooses to follow the KM-MB program, they are required to take 5 semesters in their original study program, and the following 3 semesters in other study program or another university. For instance, a student from Biology Education Study Program FKIP UNS wishes to take a class/lecture in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science (FMIPA) in a Biology study program, they are allowed to do so. If not, the student is allowed to take a course in another university under the same or different Study Program.

Before the KM-MB program, the alumni of FKIP UNS can only have one specialization. However, after the implementation of the KM-MB program students can also have specialization from another study program or university. Learning activity from other study programs consists of 8 main matrix namely industry internships or practices, village projects, student exchanges, research, entrepreneurship, independent studies or projects, humanitarian projects, and teaching in schools. Humas UNS
