UNS — The Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, organizes the online International Conference on Learning Innovation and Education Quality (ICLIQE) 2020 on “Literacy, Globalization, and Educational Quality Technology to Prepare for Society 5.0”, Saturday (5/9/2020). This year ICLIQE, the FKIP UNS specifically invites several speakers from various countries to review the advances in future educational technology. The invited speakers are Prof. Norazah Mohd. Nordin from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Dr. Lynde Lee Wee Tan from Western Sydney University, Dr. Glykeria Fragkiadaki from Monash University, and Prof. Gunarhadi from UNS.
Presenting the material in front of the 277 participants, Dr. Lynde states that the changes to the literacy landscape highlight the importance of teachers’ key competencies articulation. “There must be a key competency for a teacher to develop their students as the user of future technology. They must be critical, imaginative, effective, and confident in this digital era,” Dr. Lynde explains. She further illustrates the need for Augmented Reality (AR) in Elementary School in Australia in explaining literacy. Moreover, Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) is developed to explore the AR capability in simultaneous language practice and literacy.
Another speaker, Dr. Glykeria Fragkiadaki discusses the STEM application through Conceptual Playing World. This technique will introduce playing and imagination as a collection of practice and learning development to students. The discussion is followed by Prof. Norazah on the technological advancement in the Industrial Revolution 4.0. According to her, the technological advancement in the physical, digital, and biological fields can be directed to form future learning and facilitate a world with endless possibilities.
On the occasion, during the Zoom Cloud Meeting parallel session, there are 198 articles presented by participants from various countries such as Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam. The Dean of FKIP UNS, Dr. Mardiyana, hopes that ICLIQE 2020 can support the internationalization program in UNS as an effort to be a World Class University (WCU). “Hopefully, in the future, UNS can collaborate with notable universities from Australia, Brunei, Vietnam, Romania, and many others. UNS is committed to sustainable development, not only at the national level but also at the regional and international. UNS contribution should be promoted to a wider spectrum,” Dr. Mardiyana states.
