UNS – A team of engineering students from Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta proudly represented their university at the 7th National Vivace Innovazione, held at Lambung Mangkurat University in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan. The UNS Inovasi Team, comprised of five students, took home first place and the Best Speaker award in the essay category.
The UNS Inovasi Team included Zafran Tahfiz Zanabi and Widodo Arju Purnomo from the Mechanical Engineering Program, Firnanda Alfianti and Muhammad Parhan from Chemical Engineering, and Alya Nabila Khairunnisa from Electrical Engineering. The team was directly mentored by Prof. Dr. Eko Surojo, S.T., M.T., Vice Dean of Research and Student Affairs at FT UNS.
Team member, Widodo Arju Purnomo, shared that he and his team prepared intensively for the final presentation amidst busy academic and extracurricular schedules. The team also developed a prototype of their innovation.

“For the final presentation, we dedicated ourselves to extensive practice, prototype development, and completing the travel paperwork,” Widodo explained to uns.ac.id on Tuesday (15/10/2024). “We maximized our presentation practice despite our hectic schedules with classes and organizational commitments.”
The UNS team presented their essay titled “Photobioreactor Biomass of Chlorella vulgaris Integrated with IoT Green Technology as a Renewable Energy Source” proposing a solution to reduce carbon emissions in large cities using microalgae.
“Our essay focuses on an innovative approach to reducing carbon emissions in major cities by cultivating microalgae in our designed device,” Widodo added. “It also includes calculations related to design, process, reaction, and economic feasibility.”
As a UNS student, Widodo expressed pride and joy in the team’s success at the national level. “We hope this achievement inspires our peers to innovate and excel,” he said.
