UNS – Again, tremendous respect was presented by University of Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta through the inauguration of three professors by Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho, the rector of UNS, at the G.P.H. Haryo Mataram UNS Auditorium, Tuesday (11/05/2019). The inauguration adds the number of UNS professors to 206 in total.
The three professors are Prof. Dr. Suciati and Prof. Dr. Leo Agung Sutimin of Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) as the 204th and 205th UNS professors, and Prof. Dr. Isthadiyanta of Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) as the 206th.
In his remarks, Prof. Jamal expressed his proud feelings towards the three. He also believes that university with guidance from the professors must be more impressive and advanced in enhancing its quality.
“Because the intelligence wise of a professor is not only lecturing on the ivory tower but also connecting the academic activities (research and education) to the humans and their society to spread maximum benefits,” said Prof. Jamal.
He further explained that professors could portray the great potential of their knowledge to contribute to solving complex public problems. It includes the ability to collaborate and synergize with government, industry, fellow academicians, and society in general.
Prof. Jamal also engaged the lecturers to maximize the efforts in exploring the students’ potential in order to build their thinking and creating intuition.
“On the occasion of this disruption era, education must be able to place the youngsters work together with machines in the future, not lead them to against it. And the role of the teachers or lecturers cannot be replaced by artificial intelligence. Consequently, a lecturer is required to improve the competence,” he added.
Ending his remarks, Prof. Jamal hoped that the three professors would always be maintaining and developing their knowledge and academic values, as well as giving their best contribution to the better UNS particularly and the nation and state of Indonesia generally.
In the inauguration, each professor who was inaugurated delivered their scientific speeches. Prof. Dr. Leo Agung Sutimin talked about the character-building, Prof. Dr. Suciati presented the science learning techniques while Prof. Dr. Isthadiyanta brought up the new interpretation of relations between Indonesia and the Middle East embracing the era of Society 5.0.
