UNS — In the inauguration ceremony of Sebelas Maret Startup Academy (Semesta) Program 2021, UNS Innovation Hub (I-Hub) held a webinar on “Startup Start Now! Building a Sustainable Startup” on Friday (21/5/2021). The webinar was held online through the Zoom Cloud Meeting application and live-streamed through the UNS YouTube channel.

The Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation Affairs UNS, Prof. Kuncoro Diharjo, represented the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, opened the webinar. In his opening remark, Prof. Kuncoro stated that as a university, UNS has a vital role in developing an innovation climate and bring research findings from the academic members closer to the industry and the community. The Major of Surakarta, Gibran Rakabuming, also attended the webinar.

Six speakers were invited to the webinar, Ratih Rachmatika SIAB Founder, Gatot Hendraputra, the CEO of Imala Network, Anggoro Prasetiya, the Co-Founder of Kedata, Billy Jantriko, the Business Lead Glints TalenHub Singapore, Hilda Rizky A CMO Partnership of Mertani, and Prof. Kuncoro as the Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation Affairs UNS.

Ratih Rachmatika delivered the first material on her experience building a startup business in her university days. She thinks startup business always focuses on innovation that provides a solution for the community’s problems. Innovation differentiates startup business from small businesses that only differentiate their products from the product in the market. As the founder of SIAB, she added that startup founders should be ready to lose their stock to grow their business, which is different from the small business that only focuses on generating profit.

Gatot Hendraputra delivered material on the significant opportunity of Business Incubator and its contribution in bringing out new sustainable startups. The startup incubator’s role is to translate stakeholder’s languages into a more concise and understandable language. He added that I-Hub must possess the ability to understand and create a model that supports founders and investors by creating people with soft skills that strengthen the business. “It’s not about the product, but about who runs it (the startup),” Gatot emphasized.

Anggoro Prasetiya, the Co-Founder of Kedata, shared the opportunity of data processing in the startup business. According to him, data processing is vital to clean data which might affect the decision-making process by a government organization or private companies. “The rapid growth of data is not supported by the growth of clean and high-quality data,” he stated.

Indonesia has high potential in the rapid growth of startup business with 6.6 – 7.1% even amid the pandemic and a large number of internet users that reached 175.4 million people in 2020. “That’s why we see Indonesia potentials not only how we adopt the digital platform but at the same time is how big is our market share,” the Business Lead Glints TalenHub Singapore, stated. Additionally, Indonesia has a low startup business presentation (1.6%.) compared to Indonesia’s total population and productive community that reached 67% or 183.36 million people.
