UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Global Fintech Institute (GFI) on Tuesday (25/5/2021). The signing ceremony was held in the UNS Digital Innovation Festival 2021 broadcasted through the Zoom Cloud Meeting and YouTube channel of UNS and UNS Fintech Center.
The MoU was signed separately by the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, in his office room in the UNS Rectorate Building dr. Prakosa and by the President of GFI, Prof. David Lee Kuo Chuen from Singapore. The MoU marks UNS focus in developing Indonesia’s financial technology sector and encouraging the Center of Excellence (PUI) Center for Fintech and Banking UNS (UNS Fintech Center) to continue bringing out more digital innovation.
This partnership covers the education, training, fintech certification, and research collaboration that aims to provide broader access for students and the community toward fintech certification. Responding to the new partnership, Prof. Jamal stated that UNS welcomed this effort. He is aware that rapid technology development requires innovation in the fintech industry.
“Technology development has brought us to various innovations in our life. However, most industries have faced challenges, and we are sure that the university must be a pioneer in leading the community in this digital transformation,” Professor Jamal stated.
Specifically, he hopes that PUI Fintech Center UNS which is selected as cluster 1 in the Public University PUI (PUI-PT) by the Directorate General (Ditjen) of Higher Education (Dikti) Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemdikbud) RI in 2020, to answer the challenges in fintech fields.
Prof. David Lee Kuo Chuen stated that the collaboration is the GFI effort to get closer to the educational institution. As one of the leading universities in Indonesia, he believes that UNS has a role in developing the fintech industry in Indonesia. He hopes GFI and UNS could formulate a standard for financial technology development together.
