UNS – Time flies quickly and 2018 has passed. Throughout 2018 to this moment, Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta has achieved so many national and international accomplishments. Moreover, several innovations have been produced as a manifestation to the contribution for Indonesia.
- UNS Wins Public Relation Awards of Kemenristekdikti
Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta won three award categories in the Public Relation Award 2017 organized by the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti). The Gala Award took place in Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) Medan, North Sumatera (1/16/2018) coincide the national working meeting (Rakernas) Kemenristekdikti 2018. In this competition, UNS managed to be the first winner in publicity, the second winner for the website, and the second winner for the social media in the category of State University with the financial management system of Public Service Board (PTN-BLU). Witri Wahyu Lestari’s Research on Metal Organic Framework (MOFs), Awarded OWSD – Elsevier Foundation Award 2018
One of the lectures at Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) UNS, Dr. Witri Wahyu Lestari, succeeded in winning achievement through research publication in the prestigious awards of the OWSD-Elsevier Foundation Awards for Early-Career Women Scientists in the Developing World 2018. She won the award after competing with scientists from various Asia Pacific countries such as India, Pakistan, China, Iran, Bangladesh, Nepal, Philippines, Turkey, Srilanka, Malaysia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand, and Uzbekistan. The competition was based on indexed scholarly publications and divided into five regions of developing countries: Asia Pacific, Africa, Arab Countries, Latin America, and Caribbean. Lestari as the Indonesian representative was finally selected as the winner along with four scientists from Bangladesh, Cameroon, Ecuador, and Guyana. The handover of certificates and USD 5000 was held on February 17, 2018, in a series of the American Association’s Annual Advancement of Sciences (AAAS) Annual Meeting event in Austin, Texas, USA.
- UNS Becomes the Top Three University in Indonesia: UniRank
UNS Surakarta, on Monday, (07/30/2018) was ranked third among the national universities. The achievement was awarded by the UniRank International Ranking Institution which was formerly known as 4 International College and Universities (4ICU). UniRank is an international college ranking institution that also conducts reviews based on the popularity of the websites with the empowering and integrated infrastructures to advance the Information and Communication Technology (ICT). This was determined by the healthy academic atmosphere, good institutional management, with the outstanding quality of the students, and also the management of strengthening the publication of tri darma (three pillars of higher education comprising education, research, and community services). The review was included the 11.606 accredited colleges in the 200 countries.
- UNS Top 6 University by Schimago
Another good news was coming from UNS Surakarta. On August 2018, a university-led by Prof. Ravik Karsidi was ranked at the top six in the research. The ranking was conducted by Schimago Institutions Rankings (SIR).SIR released a list of top 20 universities in Indonesia which focused on the researches. SIR is a source of scientific evaluation to rate the research-focused universities and institutions around the world. This institution evaluates the research and academic purposes through three indicators: research performance, innovation output, and social impacts.
- The Natural Dyes by UNS Researcher developed as Biogas
The natural dyes by the research output of UNS Surakarta lecturer, Prof. Suyitno, were developed not only in the coloring of batik but also in the producing of biogas and natural fertilizer. Pre-commercialization, market testing, and downstream activities have succeeded in forming a new company under the coordination of the Enterprise Management Department (BPU) UNS, CV. Indigo Biru Baru at Jalan Patimura, Bulu, Sukoharjo. (*)
- UNS Rector and Lecturers Win Academic Leader Awards 2018
The two lecturers of UNS Surakarta achieved the Academic Leader Awards 2018 from the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti) Republic of Indonesia. Ravik Karsidi as UNS rector as well as professor of Sociology Education Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) was elected as the college leader and Agus Purwanto as the lecturer of Engineering Faculty (FT) received the academic leader awards at Friday (08/17/2018) in Jakarta. Academic Leader Award was the government’s appreciation for the dedication of the college leaders and the lecturers in advancing the quality of the colleges which was expected to inspire the academics and leaders in Indonesia. - Collaborating with Xihua University, UNS to Establish Chinese Language Center
UNS Surakarta would have a Chinese Language Center (Confucius Institute / CI). To realize the establishment of the Chinese Language Center, UNS is collaborating with CI Headquarters of China (Hanban) and Xihua University as a partner of UNS. According to the plan, CI will be inaugurated on March 11 next year. Hanban has provided startup funds of Rp.2.2 billion for the completeness of infrastructure and facilities in CI building. Moreover amounting to Rp 100,000 US dollars would be funded for each year. (*)
- UNS Launches Jawametrik
UNS Surakarta introduced and launched a Javanese cultural rating website, Jawametrik. The launching was conducted in the UNS Rectorate Building, Thursday (09/27/2018). The website jawametrik.uns.ac.id was officially launched by UNS Rector, Prof. Karsidi by sending the electronic emails to invite the 83 universities around the world for joining the event. Jawametrik is a measuring system which ranks the universities, institutions, also formal, informal, and non-formal educational organizations which consistently foster and develop the Javanese Culture, both in national and international. This system is not only measuring but also providing the information of the organizations all over the world which conserve, develop, and utilize the Javanese Culture. (*)
- Voca Erudita Achieves Prestigious Awards
In 2017, Students Choir (PSM) Voca Erudita UNS has obtained prestigious awards as the third winner of the 63rd International Choral Contest Habarenas and Polyphony in Torrevieja, Spain and also became the grand champion of the 6th Satya Dharma Gita National Choir Festival in Semarang. In the last year, 2018, PSM Voca Erudita received other prestigious awards again by receiving five awards in the Soegijapranata Choral Festival, Universitas Katolik Soegijapranata, Semarang (09/06-09/2018). They were Best Interpretation for Indonesia Contemporary Choral Music, Champion of Mixed category, Champion of Equal Voices category, a Gold Medal for Folklore category, and Grand Champion of Soegijapranata Choral Festival for Voca Erudita Female Choir. It became the debut of Voca Erudita in the formation of Equal Voices. (*)
- UNS Manages Top 10 AUR 2019 by QS
On October 2018, UNS Surakarta was ranked Top 10 Asian University Ranking (AUR) Indonesia 2019 by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). This achievement equated UNS with other senior and incorporate universities.
- Two UNS students succeed in APG
The two students of UNS Surakarta won five silver medals and a bronze medal at the Asian Para Games (APG) in 2018. They were Sri Sugiyanti who got three medals and a bronze medal for the Cycling and two silver medals from Arianti Putri in the Athletic. (*)
- UNS Achieves SNI Award for the First Time
UNS Surakarta received the Indonesia National Standard (SNI) Award from the National Standardization Agency (BSN) for the first time. The award was obtained in Jakarta on Wednesday (11/21/2018). In this occasion, UNS won the silver rank.
- Five UNS Departments Receive International Accreditation
Five departments of UNS Surakarta have been certified the international accreditation. Of the five departments, four of them have obtained the certificate from ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) and another from The Alliance on Business Education and Scholarship for Tomorrow, a 21st century organization (ABEST21). The four UNS departments that received AUN-QA 2018 certificate were Biology Department of Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Management Department of Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Mechanical Engineering Department of Faculty of Engineering (FT), and Civil Engineering Department of FT. Then the department that received the international accreditation from ABEST21 was master program of Management Department of FEB. (*)
- UNS Wins Public Information Openness Award 2018
UNS Surakarta won the Public Information Openness Award 2018 from the Central Information Commission (KIP). The prestigious award was given by the Chairman of KIP, Gede Narayana at the Palace of the Vice President of Indonesia on Monday (5/11/2018). UNS became one of 18 State Universities (PTN) that received Public Information Openness Award 2018 for the Quite Informative category. Of the 26 invited PTN, 1 PTN in the Informative category, 7 PTNs in the Towards Informative category, and 18 PTNs in the Quite Informative category. (*)
- UNS Gets Diktendik National Achievement
Due to his excellent work, namely the Integrated Financial Information System for Reporting Absorptive Power and the Process of Approval of Expenditure, Hagung Rihanjoyo won the third winner in the Competition for Best Educators and Education Personnel (Diktendik) by Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kememristekdikti) 2018 in the Financial Management category. The national competition was conducted in Jakarta (10/27-30/2018). By winning the third winner, Rihanjoyo received the trophy and Rp. 20 million cash. (*)
- Using Solar Energy, UNS Researchers Create SPATS to water Farmland
The researchers from UNS Surakarta created the engineering technology called Solar Water Pump System (Sistem Pompa Air Tenaga Surya/ SPATS). The innovation of water pump by using the renewable solar energy was created to replace the use of inefficient fuel diesel in the water pump. The use of fuel in diesel or water pump was expensive and ineffective. Solar water pump system is one of the effective, cheap, and efficient solutions to preserve the irrigation system in agriculture when facing the dry season. (*)
- UNS occupies Three Stars in QS Version
At the end of 2018, UNS Surakarta occupied Three Stars from Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Star University Rating 2018. QS Star University Rating UNS raised to the three stars from two stars in the last ranking.
QS Star University issues every three years. It was different from the annual QS ranking. There are seven categories assessed in the ranking: teaching, employability, research, internationalization, facilities, social responsibility and inclusiveness. (*)Humas.uns/Asl
