UNS — Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) RI, Dr. Zainudin Amali, reminded Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta graduates on work competition in the digital era during online and offline graduation ceremony period IV, Saturday (15/8/2020). Through video conference remark, Dr. Zainudin Amali stated that the massive technological development in the digital era has changed many fields of work and some may disappear in the future. However, he stated that there are jobs that can be developed in the digital era such as education, healthcare, and basic needs providers.

“Facing the varieties of new jobs in the digital era is a challenge we cannot avoid and need to be adjusted to the situation. Many jobs before the digital era will be replaced with digital jobs,” Dr. Zainudin Amali stated.

The tight competition, mentioned by Dr. Zainudin Amali as a result of the large numbers of university graduates from and outside the country that compete to enter the industry and career world. He also mentioned four challenges in the competition in the present and the future of this digital era. These challenges are the lack of skills, communication, the evolution of non-digital to the digital workplace, and moral degradation which leads to individualistic and negative behaviors. Therefore, Dr. Zainudin Amali asked UNS graduates to put forward creative and innovative way of thinking to win the competition in the workplace.

As Menpora, Dr. Zainudin Amali, conveyed government strategy in reducing the number of unemployment. First, by developing young entrepreneurs by providing funding and training. Second, by empowering the youth to be independent and to build their village through skill development according to the village potential. Third, providing education scholarship for youth or fresh graduate who want to continue their study. Fourth, training for service providers through the development of technology-based services.

Dr. Zainudin Amali also shared about the techno-preneurship, that research will introduce digital industry jobs to the young generation. Research findings will create innovation that provides a room for ideas, incubation for technology-based business, technology transfer services, and building humanistic work culture. Humas UNS
