UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held a graduation ceremony differently in offline and online graduation ceremony period IV at the forecourt of dr. Prakosa Building and G.P.H Haryo Mataram Auditorium, Saturday (15/8/2020). UNS combined the dance movements into the ceremony under the theme of “Pemuda Berkarya Penggerak Indonesia Maju” (the youth creation as a driving force in Indonesia’s development).
UNS invited 17 graduates from various faculties to carry a colorful banner inscribed with the Republic of Indonesia (RI) 75th Anniversary. They performed choreography in their toga which followed by the move of graduation tassel by the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, after returning the flags to its place around the stage.
In his remark, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho stated that the concept of this graduation ceremony for the third time is due to the increase of the number of positive Covid-19 cases in various regions in Indonesia. He explained that the choreography creation aimed to increase the youth’s spirits as the driving force in commemorating Indonesia 75th anniversary on 17 August. He reminded UNS graduates to prioritize openness, courage and willingness to fight amid the uncertainty due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“2020 is a year to prove that you have high intelligence and spirits because you experienced two important events, completing your study with the maximum result and live through new lifestyle due to the pandemic,” Prof. Jamal added.
The difficult situation, according to Prof. Jamal is challenges and tests in proving how strong humans struggle and survive in moving their full potential. Prof. Jamal believes that optimism has strength in awakening the power of the mind and human power in conquering doubt and fear in the face of future challenges. In the report from the Vice-Rector for Academic UNS, Prof. Ahmad Yunus, 1,186 students were graduated from Doctoral, Master, Specialist Doctor Program, Undergraduate, and Diploma program.
“31 Students were graduated from Doctoral Program, 102 from Master Program, 31 from Specialist Doctor Program, 36 from the Faculty of Cultural Studies (FIB), 152 from FKIP, 143 from Faculty of Law (FH) 143, 198 from Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), 146 from Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), 148 from Faculty of Medical Science (FK), 70 from Faculty of Agriculture (FP), 46 from Faculty of Engineering (FT), 71 from MIPA, 8 from Faculty of Art and Design (FSRD), and 4 from Faculty of Sports (FKOR),” Prof. Ahmad Yunus explained.
Among the graduates, 745 were graduated with honors. Ratna Juwita from the Doctoral Program in Education Science was the fastest graduate from doctoral program who completed her study in 2 years and 11 months with a GPA of 3.92. The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) RI, Dr. Zainudin Amali. Humas UNS
