Nine hundred and Eighty UNS Students Joined the First COVID-19 KKN Covid-19

UNS – As many as 980 students of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta joined the first COVID-19 Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata – KKN). Before the students were dispatched on the 1 May 2020, the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho provided online guidance and dispatched the KKN Covid-19 UNS students on Thursday (30/4/2020).

On this occasion, Prof. Jamal conveyed his hope to the students who will conduct the first KKN Covid-19 to not reduce the definition of community service.

“You must appear as Covid-19 heroes, you must appear as young people who have real service for the community,” Prof. Jamal instructed in his online briefing.

Prof. Jamal expected that all the participants can conduct KKN according to the health protocol and keeping their health as well as help to solve the problems concerning COVID-19 pandemic. “This KKN supposed to be conducted on July-August 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is conducted earlier on April-May 2020, moreover, the students had returned to their respective homes,” he added.

Meanwhile, the chairman of KKN Implementing Unit (UP) of LPPM UNS, Prof. Sudibya stated that the end of COVID-19 pandemic is a mystery. Thus, to facilitate students in completing their study, UNS decided to conduct KKN this period in the form of COVID-19 KKN.

“The method of (KKN) this period is student perform their program in their respective home independent and not in a group, (students) received online supervision from their field supervisor, with the education theme adjusted to each region’s condition,” explained Prof. Sudibya.

At the first stage, students who have registered for COVID-19 KKN is 980 students from 11 faculties in UNS. The coverage of COVID-19 KKN is in 23 provinces in Indonesia with 8 provinces in Java covered by 942 students and 15 provinces outside Java covered by 38 students. The first program will be supervised by 49 field supervisors.

Prof. Sudibya also reported the development of students who register for the second COVID-19 KKN which is opened until 30 April 2020. According to the data collected by the UP KKN per 30 April, 1,571 students have registered for the second COVID-19 KKN. “The registration for the third term will be opened on 1 until 8 May 2020,” he said.
