UNS – Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held an online Tarawih recitation with KH. Abdul Wahid Maktub on Thursday (30/4/2020). The routine recitation held twice a week during Ramadan is attended by the Rector of UNS, Vice-Rectors of UNS, the faculty head, chairman of the institution, Director and Deputy Directors of Postgraduate program, Senate chairman, Senate members, and other academic members of UNS. Several public university (PTN) rectors also participated in the Online Tarawih Recitation.
The Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho stated that this online tarawih recitation is a new program due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We hold this twice a week on Monday and Thursday evening at 20.00-21.30 WIB (West Indonesia Time). Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we hold this online. Around 75 participants joined the tarawih recitation. Several PTN rectors who joined are among others from Unnes, Universitas Negeri Singaperbangsa Karawang, UNIB Bengkulu, Universitas Tengku Umar Aceh and several other public universities,” explained Prof. Jamal.
This year Ramadan the Tarawih Recitation have been conducted twice. First was on Monday (27/4/2020) with Prof. Joko Nurkamto, former dean of FKIP UNS, as a speaker. Ther second tarawih recitation from UNS invited KH. Abdul Wahid Maktub, a former Indonesian Ambassador to Qatar and Special Staff of Menristekdikti, as a speaker.
In his preach, KH. Abdul Wahid Maktub took ‘Fasting as a way to know and get closer to Allah’ as a theme. “Ramadan fasting is compulsory for believers, this is in line with the verses in Alquran, Surat Al-Baqarah verse 183,” KH. Abdul Wahid Maktub stated.
KH. Abdul Wahid Maktub added that there are three levels of people who perform fasting. First the fasting of people in general by withstanding only gluttony and lust. Second, fasting by withstanding gluttony and lust, but also controlling hearing, sight, tongue, hands and feet and all limbs from performing immoral acts. Third, khushushul khushus fasting by all mentioned in special fasting but adding the fasting of hearts from the thoughts of worldly pleasures and only focus on worship to Allah SWT. Humas UNS/Dwi
