UNS – The Center for Mandarin Literature (Pusat Bahasa Mandarin – PBM) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta and Xihua University, China holds an online Cloud Summer Camp in “Study with Xihua University” 20-28 July 2020, through Zoom Cloud Meeting. Cloud Summer Camp is held as a means and opportunity for participants and students of Mandarin Language Diploma Program (DIII) School of Vocational program (SV) UNS in understanding, learning, and deepen their knowledge on Mandarin and Chinese Culture.
The event was opened by the Vice-Rector for Partnership and Planning Affairs UNS, Prof. Sajidan. Representing the Rector UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, he welcomed the Cloud Summer Camp held by PBM UNS this year.
“We convey our gratitude to all parties who have supported this event. Through this event, we hope that PBM UNS vision and missions can be achieved in providing Mandarin language and Chinese Culture education in improving partnership with a foreign university,” Prof. Sajidan stated.
Prof. Sajidan mentioned that this event will support UNS internationalization efforts to reach World Class University (WCU). He hopes that the relationship between the two universities can be maintained through the event that provides materials on Mandarin language and introduction on Chinese Culture, and that similar event can be conducted again in the future on a larger scale.
Attending the event is the Board of Commissioners of Xihua University delegation, Mr. LUO Bo, who stated that due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the annual event is conducted online. However, he appreciates PBM UNS action through UNS Confucius Institute which has collaborated closely with Xihua University to prepare the Cloud Summer Camp this year. He mentioned that this year is the second time the Summer Camp is held. He also mentioned that this year, Xihua University has accepted 10 alumni of Mandarin Language Diploma Program (DIII) SV UNS and there will be additional of two students on September, as a part of the collaboration between UNS and Xihua University in term of student and cultural exchange.
The Summer Camp participants will learn about arts, cultures, history, geography, and tourism in Chengdu and Kunming virtually-delivered directly by Faculty members and native speaker from Xihua University. A Faculty Member from Mandarin Language Diploma Program (DIII) SV UNS will assist the students during the Summer Camp. In total there are 43 participants registered for the program that comes from Universitas Sumatra Utara (USU), Universitas Padjajaran (Unpad), Universitas Kristen Maranatha, Universitas Binus, Universitas Negeri Semarang (Unnes), I3L, UKSW, Bandung Theological University, Shandong University, and Huaqiao University, as well as participants from Bina Widya School Surakarta and alumni UNS who receive 3+2 scholarship in Xihua University. The event was also attended by the Director of Confucius Institute UNS Stephanie Phanata, B. Ed., MTCSOL, the Chief of International Office UNS Irwan Trinugroho, Ph. D, and the Board of Commissioners of Xihua University delegation Mr. FEI Ling. Humas UNS
