UNS – Center for Disability Studies (Pusat Studi Difabilitas – PSD) of the Institute for Research and Community Engagement (LPPM) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) held a monthly discussion on Tuesday (18/2/2020) in Meeting Room 1, LPPM UNS building 1st floor.
The theme for the monthly discussion is Research Design for Single Subject with Dr. Nur Arifah Drajati, M.Pd from English Education Program and a peer group of PSD LPPM UNS as the speaker.
The monthly discussion is opened directly by the Head of PSD, Prof. Dr. Munawir Yusuf, M.Psi. “The Center for Disability Studies is one of the research centers in LPPM UNS. Our focus is on disability study, starting from research, community engagement, teaching, training, and other activities including studies, (and) book writing, all are focused on the context of disability with the final objective to help the community especially those with a disability to achieve happiness,” Prof. Munawir stated.
The Center for Disability Studies has 5 main divisions: information and consultation, disability service, research and development, seminar and discussion, and training and advocation. PSD UNS has an office in LPPM UNS building 2nd floor. The monthly discussion on Research for Single Subject is an event under research and development division.
The participants of the monthly discussion were diverse. Some are peer-group PSD LPPM UNS, peer-groups of other research centers, bachelor/master/doctoral students, and general participants.
Dr. Nur explained in detail research design for a single subject with a narrative inquiry focus. Narrative inquiry is a means to collect information for the research objective that will be conveyed through the story. The narrative inquiry includes each individual with its uniqueness, experience or reflection, single or more participants but can be used as a phenomenon, and based on stories with theoretical packaging.
“There are various stories that can be raised in narrative inquiry; the past, present, future, critical incident, and autobiography,” Dr. Nur Arifah stated.
