UNS – Another proud achievement was achieved by Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta in Basketball National Championship Indonesian Railway Sports Competition (IRASCO) 2020. This event is held by the Politeknik Perkeretaapian Indonesia (PPI) Madiun, on Sunday (9/2/2020).

The match took place for three days in a row, starting on Friday (7/2/2020) until Sunday (9/2/2020). There were 14 basketball teams from various campuses participated in the championship that came from various provinces, Central Java, East Java, and Yogyakarta (DIY).

Under the guidance from Ahmad Septiandika Adirahma, S.Pd, M.Or. and Baskoro Nugroho Putro, M.Pd, the basketball team of the Faculty of Sport (FKOR) UNS won the 2nd place in the IRASCO championship. Hard training is needed to achieve the position. Long term training resulted in satisfying achievement for the team. When contacted by uns.ac.id, Safiru Aditya Famura as the captain of the FKOR UNS basketball team, admitted that they went through long training.

“Around one and a half months and five times a week,” explained Safiru on Wednesday (19/2/2020).

Thirteen players participated in the championship: Safiru Aditya Famura, Lestyan Fathurrohman, Aldo Saputra, Ari Sulistyo, Rasyid Rahman, Rizky Fadzul, Ali Prakoso, Risky Ramadhan, Seba, Hafid, Varanita Asa, Mikael, and Bagus. The team consisted of students from the various year; 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and event from the master program.

On the first day, the UNS team had to face the home team PPI Madiun, but the match was postponed to the next day because of rain. On the second day, the UNS team had one match to advance to the semi-final, but the FKOR UNS team had to play twice; in the morning for the previously postponed match, and on the evening to face the team from Taruna Penerbangan.

FKOR UNS team won both matches and went to the semi-final facing Politeknik Kelautan Surabaya. The UNS team won and made into the final, facing Universitas Semarang (USM). The final match was fierce with both teams chased one another until the 3rd quarter. In the 4th quarter, USM managed to score more points and make FKOR UNS went home with the trophy and prize for the 2nd place.

This achievement is the result of hard work that FKOR UNS went through.

“In our opinion, this achievement is the result of our hard work during training before the matches. Maybe for the future championship, we can do better, we can get the 1st place as our target for each championship. Never feel satisfied and remain humble, because hard work will pay off,” Safiru said. Humas UNS/Zalfaa
