Representing her sisters, Dr. Uswatung Hasanah shared inspirative stories from their college years in UNS.

The six sisters are from Gondang Village, Sragen. Their family was not financially advantaged, making them feel the struggle to complete their university education. Their success is inseparable from the efforts of their parents. Their father, the late Abdullah Djamal Warsito His wife, Siri Abdullah, is an elementary school graduate (Sekolah Rakyat – SR; Red: elementary school during Dutch East Indies Era). After her husband’s death, Siri Abdullah had to share her husband’s pension money IDR 120,000 for her children studying in the university.

These six sisters are Dra. Siti Asiyah M.Pd., an alumnus of Guidance and Counseling Education Program Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Nur Susilowati, S.Pd. M.Pd. alumnus of Diploma Program (D-3) in English Language and Literature UNS and Master Program in English Language and Literature UNS, Muchsonah, S.Pd, M.Ed, Appling, Ph.D.(cand) alumnus of Diploma Program (D-3) English Language Education and Undergraduate Program in English Language Education UNS, Sri Lestari, S.Pd. “I want to say that, in no chance, our children and we will never be a hero like them (our parents). My gratitude will never be enough because to this day, our late father still finances our mother with his pension, financing us, so we become who we are now. The inheritance of education and counsel from our father stay alive with our mother,” Dr. Uswatun Hasanah said.

In his response, Prof. Jamal considers this achievement as something invaluable. The togetherness in a family and humble economic condition encourage the family to continue learning and achieve their doctoral degree. “I see Mrs. Uswatun Hasanah and her family is incredible. The togetherness with her younger and older siblings, jane ra cukup ning yo dicukup-cukupke (it is not enough, but they can manage). This is an inspirative story as not many people can pull this out,” Prof. Jamal said. Humas UNS
