Rector UNS: Alumni Need to be Ready Facing the Changes

UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held another graduation ceremony on Saturday (28/8/2021). The ceremony was Period IV Graduation Ceremony in 2021 held online and learning through the Zoom Could Meeting and UNS Campus. Representatives from each faculty attended the offline ceremony. This ceremony was also live-streamed through the UNS YouTube channel.

The ceremony was opened by the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, followed by a graduation report from the Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Ahmad Yunus. In his report, Prof. Ahmad Yunus mentioned that the ceremony was joined by 1,185graduates from Diploma, Undergraduate, Master, and Doctoral Programs. Six hundred and sixty-four participants were graduated cumlaude, and many are breaking a record of completing the degree fastest in all degrees.

To mark the graduation procession, the Rector of UNS asked graduates’ parents to represent the university to move their children’s tassel left and followed the procession, mentioning all graduates one by one. On this occasion, the Rector also reminded the graduates to be ready to face the changes using their creative minds because it will give the graduates self-confidence amid the uncertain condition due to the pandemic.

“Experience and knowledge that you have from your study should be able to make you self-confident,” Prof. Jamal said in his remark.

Besides the disruption caused by the pandemic and the digital transformation, the demographic bonus is another challenge that the current generation needs to deal with. The demographic bonus needs to be managed through the readiness of the Human Resources in Indonesia, including Human Resource’s quality improvement to meet the relevant market’s needs. This improvement should become the government’s main target, including the universities.

Prof. Jamal also stated that he is proud and believes that the UNS graduates have a high optimism towards their future. “Master your field, build an appropriate strategy and tactics. Surely, you will have high adaptability to face the growth and changes that will continue occurring,” he concluded.

The Rector again reminded the graduates that strategy without tactics is the slowest route towards victory, while tactics without strategy is a celebration before defeat. This graduation ceremony inaugurated these students as a part of the UNS Alumni Association (IKA UNS). Humas UNS
