UNS — The Student Association Unit (UKM) in Qur’an Study (IQ) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta had successfully organized a Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran (MTQ-a festival showing participant’s skill in reading the Al-Qu’ran according to a set of rules for the correct pronunciation of the letters and applying the various traditional methods of recitation) UNS 2020. This event consists of several competitions for university students and high school students from all across Indonesia and concluded with a Tabligh Akbar (mass religious teaching).
The available categories for high school students are MTQ, syarhil Qu’ran, and Al-Qur’an calligraphy. Meanwhile, the categories available for university students are musabaqah tilawatil Quran, hifdzil Quran, and Qur’an Scientific paper. The competition was held on Saturday to Sunday (10-11/10/2020) and Saturday (17/10/2020) through online Zoom cloud meeting and available for live stream through IQ UNS Youtube channel. In total 383 participants were coming from various regions in Indonesia such as Sumatera, Sulawesi, Java, Kalimantan/Borneo, and Nusa Tenggara. The winner announcement was held on Sunday (18/10/2020), which followed with a Tabligh Akbar on “Get Closer to Al-Qur’an, Fixing the Civilization” delivered by Syaikh Khanova Maulana, Lc as the Qori and K.H Muhlisin Dawam as the speaker.
When contacted by uns.ac.id, Faris Alrosyid, the Chair of the Organizing Committee, reveals that he got new experiences from this event. “It was a challenging but great experience since this is the first virtual musabaqoh. We learned a lot, starting from the planning, preparation, execution, and the two-way (online and offline) communications. The organizing committee members also feel the same from this new experience,” Faris explains.
One of the committee members, Riska Fatmawati, admits that initially, she was doubtful whether the MTQ UNS 2020 will be implemented or not. But finally, the event went smoothly. Humas UNS
