Research Group Geography Education Program UNS Hold Community Services Program to MGMP SMA in Sukoharjo

UNS — Research Group Applied Geography of Geography Education Program Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta conducted community service activity to teachers in MGMP Geografi SMA in Sukoharjo District (Senior High School Geography Teacher Association) via Zoom application on 21- 23 July 2020 with the theme on identifying the Distribution of Disaster-Prone Areas in Natural Disaster Mitigation Materials.

The Head of community service Research Group Applied Geography of Geography Education Program FKIP UNS, Dr. Yasin Yusup stated that natural disaster mitigation is important education in this era. Disaster mitigation education is expected to reduce the impact of disaster risk in a region considering Indonesia has various types of disasters both natural and social.

“Geography Education Program UNS in Research Group Applied Geography take efforts to reduce the risk of disaster by conducting community service in collaboration with MGMP Geografi SMA in Sukoharjo,” Dr. Yasin explained.

In the event, the research group introduced the disaster-related applications considering Sukoharjo is prone to natural disasters. The applications introduced in the program are inaRISK Personal, MAGMA Indonesia, and Info BMKG Pertolongan Pertama-IFRC, which are available in Play Store for Android. The event is expected to reduce the risk of disaster by including disaster application in school material that can be implemented by students and the community. Humas UNS
