Six FKOR UNS Faculty Members Train Indonesia Team in Tokyo Paralympic 2020

UNS — The Tokyo Olympic 2020 is now followed by the Tokyo Paralympic 2020 on 24 August – 5 September 2021. Indonesia sends 23 athletes to this prestigious championship, and the Faculty of Sports (FKOR) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta participated in Indonesian athletes training for this occasion. Although the faculty does not send its students to this championship, six of its faculty members are participating as athletes training in this event, as explained by the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Zainudin Amali in FKOR UNS 3rd Anniversary on Friday (13/8/2021).

“There are six UNS faculty members who are involved as Paralympic trainers. From our records, FKOR UNS has a significant and prominent role in the training for sports for disabled people,” Zainudin Amali explained. These six faculty members are Dr. Sapta Kunta Purnama, M.Pd. (Dean of FKOR UNS) as trainer and manager of Indonesia para-badminton team, Dr. Islahuzaman, M.Or (Vice-Dean for Human Resources, Finance, and Logistics Affairs) and Dr. Fadhilah Umar, M.Or (Chief of Quality Assurance Unit FKOR UNS) as trainers for para-cycling or bike racing, Slamet Widodo, M.Or and Purwo Adi, M.Or (Special Faculty Member FKOR UNS) as the trainer of para-athletics, and Rizan S (Special Faculty Member) as bike racing technical team.

UNS also becomes one of the training centers for the Indonesia Tokyo Paralympic 2020 team. This year, Surakarta is selected as the training center because the Ministry considers the city to have complete facilities, including the training ground and tools from FKOR UNS. UNS is considered to provide satisfactory facilities and services, and the Ministry thanked UNS for providing such facilities.

“UNS has a great role in the Tokyo Paralympic 2020 preparation. I received a report from the Chief (National Paralympic Committee (NPC) that the collaboration between NPC and UNS is excellent that the trainers and athletes are very comfortable. I thanked the UNS Rector who provided the best services for the paralympic athletes,” Zainudin Amali added.

Indonesian Team has departed to Tokyo, and the Paralympic was officially opened on Tuesday (24/8/2021), and some of the athletes already compete in their championship. Vice-Dean for Academic, Research, and Student Affairs FKOR UNS, Dr. Rony Syaifullah, M.Pd. Stated that several faculty members who train the team are also departing to Tokyo. They will assist in the preparation to accompanying the athletes during the championship.

“Trainers who passed the Paralympic (requirements) are all in Tokyo, those who passed the qualifications,” Dr. Rony stated. Humas UNS
