UNS– The Rector of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, inaugurated the Kawasan Pelopor and Benteng Pancasila (The Vanguard and Fortress of Pancasila), Thursday (12/3/2020). The inauguration is a special moment and gift for UNS that commemorate its anniversary on Wednesday (11/3/2020).
Accompanied by the Vice-Rector of Students and Alumni Affairs, Prof. Kuncoro Diharjo and Vice-Rector of Academic, Prof. Ahmad Yunus, Prof. Jamal delivered his opening remark before inaugurating Kawasan Pelopor and Benteng Pancasila.
“The respectable the leaders of Forum Kerukunan Umat Beragama (Forum for Religious Harmony), Dr. Djoko Wahyu Winarno, and Buddhist, Catholics, Hindus, Islam, Christians, and Confucians, leaders of the university, and deans,” greeted Prof. Jamal in his welcome speech.
In front of the religious leaders and followers, Prof. Jamal explicitly stated that UNS’s commitment to pledge as Kampus Benteng Pancasila (Pancasila Fortress Campus) was firmly rooted. Even with this commitment, UNS wants to become a home for students who believe in six religions in Indonesia.
“UNS has declared to the public as the vanguard and fortress of Pancasila. One of the real proofs that UNS is very friendly to differences, especially in terms of Bhinneka-related differences in religions. There are not many campuses which have complete worship facilities in one area like UNS,” Prof. Jamal continued.
For Prof. Jamal, the six worship facilities in UNS main campus becomes the symbol of unity and harmony among the academic members of UNS. Therefore, the spirit of UNS to manifest itself to be a competitive, enhanced, and excellent education institution will be easier to achieve because of the strong and solid relationship among the academic members.
The solid relationship is proved by Prof. Jamal when UNS held a rector election for the 2019-2023 period. According to him, the rector election through consensus became a milestone and unique characteristics for UNS to become an example for other universities in Indonesia to put forward a good, peaceful, and full of brotherhood in leadership succession.
Closing his speech, Prof. Jamal asked UNS academic members to avoid discord, especially in terms of religiosity.
“Discord needs to be avoided. Including in our religious life. The differences among religious followers are not looking for things that are not true. But with religious differences and beliefs, let us be always in peace,” Prof. Jamal concluded.
The inauguration of Kawasan Pelopor dan Benteng Pancasila is closed with the signing of the inscription by Prof. Jamal accompanied by the representatives from Forum Kerukunan Umat Beragama and the manager of UNS worship facilities. Humas UNS/ Yefta.
