UNS — Complementary Board (Badan Kelengkapan – BK) of Student Member of Board of Trustee (MWA UM) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta submitted five-point suggestion in MWA UNS Open Discussion held through Zoom Cloud Meeting, Wednesday (27/1/2021). The Open Discussion was attended by the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, Vice Chairman of MWA UNS, Prof. Hasan Fauzi, Chairman of Academic Senate (SA) UNS, Prof. Adi Sulistyono, and MWA UM UNS member, Muhammad Zainal Arifin.
The five-points included in MWA UNS Charter mentioned that UNS should be consistent and has an active role in achieving its vision, mission, goals, and work culture as a populist campus. The other suggestion is the commitment to maintain the spirit and environmental concern following the UNS Green Campus program and full dedication to the fundamental values in implementing the Higher Education Tri Dharma.
Opening the discussion, Arifin stated that the role of campus as an academic environment is to become a means of freedom in developing knowledge to improve student’s intellectual capabilities. He thinks that the eight Key Performance Indicators (IKU) and Kampus Merdeka and Merdeka Belajar program can be used as a benchmark for campus policies. Additionally, MWA is also expected to act as a bridge for student’s aspirations.
Responding to the MWA UNS Charter suggested by the students, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho stated that the five points suggestion is a reflection of student’s concern over their campus. He welcomed BK MWA UM UNS’ contribution to the campus. He stated that the proposal is in line with the Merdeka Belajar program’s impact on students’ activities, assistance, research, and humanities. Prof. Jamal also discussed the eight IKUs mentioned by Muhammad Zainal Arifin in his opening remark.
The eight IKUs include the percentage of graduates who get decent occupation (above regional minimum income, become entrepreneur, or continue their study), students with experience outside their campus (internship, village project, teaching, research, entrepreneurship project, and student exchange), and faculty members activities outside their campus (industry exposure and activities in other campuses).
“There are eight IKUs. These IKUs have been formulated well, and UNS stakeholders, especially from the executive leaders such as Rector, Dean, and Head of Program, should prepare well to achieve the target,” the Rector stated.
Another response toward the charter also came from Prof. Hasan Fauzi. Representing the Chairman of MWA UNS, TNI Commander Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto, he stated that the suggestion is a positive contribution to the campus’ development and can serve as discussion materials. He also added that the forum becomes an appropriate means to discuss the suggestion in depth. Prof. Hasan stated that he has discussed with Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto regarding all points mentioned in the MWA charter suggested by UNS students.
“I support the Rector’s efforts in Green Campus, leading education, which are our collective efforts to improve UNS performance. All are positives and can be emphasized to give a meaning to the mandate,” Prof. Hasan said. Humas UNS
