UNS – The Center for Fintech and Banking Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS Fintech Center), the first Fintech Center in Indonesia, which located on the 2nd Floor of UNS Library, is officially inaugurated on Thursday (12/3/2020). The inauguration was carried out by the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Financial Services Authority (OJK), Prof. Wimboh Santoso together with the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho.
The Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of OJK, Prof. Wimboh Santoso, in his opening remarks mentioned that UNS Fintech Center is the first Fintech Center within a university in Indonesia. “This is our effort to establish a collaboration between OJK and education institutions in facilitating the entrepreneurs, especially in the education field,” said Prof. Wimboh.
The reason for OJK in choosing UNS as the location for the establishment of this Fintech Center is because UNS is considered capable to develop the Fintech Center. Moreover, the location of UNS, which located in the middle, will facilitate those who want to learn about Fintech.
“We think the establishment of a Fintech Center in Solo is favorable. For those from the east region, if they want to study, is near, those from the west are also close, therefore we choose UNS,” Prof. Wimboh added.
By collaborating with the OJK and Bank Indonesia (BI), hopefully, the presence of Fintech Center in UNS can provide value-added for the young generation who want to be an entrepreneur in Fintech. Thus, there will be Fintech entrepreneurs from UNS.
Prof. Wimboh hopes that the presence of the Fintech Center in UNS can be useful for education, the community, and the young generation.
Meanwhile, the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho explained that the financial service industry experiencing dramatic developments along with technological developments, especially the penetration of the internet and smartphone. One of them is the development of technology-based financial service companies (Fintech) in various aspects of financial service either in payment, lending, investment, and others. Therefore, Prof. Jamal hopes that the presence of UNS Fintech Center can benefit the UNS academicians and the surrounding community.
“Please use this Fintech Center as well as possible. As for the operational hours, because this is located in UNS Library, it can open until night at 22.00 WIB. Later for the room design, it will be adjusted to the young generation tastes, thus it will not be too formal,” said Prof. Jamal.
Prof. Jamal added that the presence of UNS Fintech Center is adding to the Center of Excellence in Science and Technology (PUI) in UNS. Thus, currently, UNS PUI consists of the Center for Lithium Battery Development in Purwosari, Javanology, and UNS Fintech Center.
Afterward, following the inauguration of the UNS Fintech Center, there will be two events. The first is the International Seminar entitled “Fintech and the Future of Finance”, with keynote speaker the Chairman of the Board of Commissioner of OJK and presenting other speakers such as Sukarela Batunanggar (Deputy Commissioner OJK), Dr. Bambang Pramono (Chief Representative of BI in Surakarta), Dr. Iman Gunadi (Director of Research, Deposit Insurance Agency-LPS), Dr. Hanafi Guciano (Digital Finance and Impact Investment Expert), and Avesena Reza (Chairman of the Working Group/WG Equity Crowdfunding, AFTECh & CEO of Santara). The Seminar is conducted in G.P.H Haryo Mataram Auditorium on Thursday (12/3/2020) at 08.30 WIB.
Following the seminar, there will be Cashless Fair, Culinary Festival, and Talk Show on “Meet the QRIS: All About QRIS”. The Talk Show invites two speakers: Gunawan Prabowo (Bank Indonesia) and Widya Listyowulan (DANA). Both events are held on the same day at the G.P.H Haryo Mataram Auditorium front yard. As for the Cashless Fair and Culinary Festival is started at 08.00 WIB, while the Talk Show is started from 13.00 to 14.00 WIB.
