UNS — The Alumni Association of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, held another ‘wedangan’ (informal friendly meeting) on the Traces of Alumni from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science (FMIPA) UNS in the Research and Development sector. This event was conducted virtually through Zoom Cloud Meeting and IKA UNS Youtube Channel on Wednesday (9/12/2020). On this occasion, IKA UNS invites four alumni from FMIPA UNS alumni as speakers, they are Imam Bustomi, M.M, Dr. Murni Handayani, Dimas Irawan, M.Si, and Ahmad Marzuki, Ph.D. Also attending the event are the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, and the Chair of IKA UNS, Ir. Budi Harto.
“We all know that MIPA (Mathematics and Natural Science) is the mother of all science, and the alumni of FMIPA UNS has been dispersed and take proper roles in the community,” Ir. Budi Harto reveals in his remarks.
In the material presented by Imam Bustomi, M.M., who currently serves as the Deputy Assistant in Technology and Information for the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises as well as the Head of FMIPA Alumni Association, states that remote working must be one of the new implemented working pattern. “A study result on remote working shows that most of its respondents are agreed if in the near future there will be a new working pattern. Even further, 95 percent states that they are happy with this idea. There are two things that the millennials expect when choosing a job. They want development and works flexibility,” he explains.
Meanwhile, Dr. Murni Handayani, alumni of the Chemistry study program class of 1997, as a researcher in Metallurgy and Materials Research Center LIPI, explains about nano-scale science for our life (nanoscience). She states that the Covid-19 virus is real with the size of a nanometer in scale. Following Dr. Murni’s material, Dimas Irawan (alumni from Physics Study Program class of 1997) serving as Head of Subdivision of Science Dissemination, Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) Austria, deliver material on the research facility, development, and nuclear technology transfer. Meanwhile, the last speakers, Ahmad Marzuki, Ph.D., lecturer in Physics Study Program UNS as well as the Head of Photonics Optics Laboratory FMIPA UNS, discuss the production of ventilators in UNS. This ventilator is in high demand due to the nature of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Ventilator is a breathing aid, thus patients who failed to breathe naturally can be helped with ventilator,” he concluded. Humas UNS
