UNS — Starting from her hobby of wearing a skirt in her daily activities, a student from the Indonesian Language and Literature Program Faculty of Cultural Studies (FIB) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Annisa Inawati Siswanto, started a thrift business that has successfully generated millions of rupiah in a month.
“The sales depend on how many times I uploaded in a month. But in general, it is around IDR 3-5 million a month,” Annisa stated on Monday (21/3/2022).
The thrifting trend is used by Annisa to create a business opportunity. The business was inspired by the difficulties she experienced in mixing and matching her outfits. “From the experience, I found thrift skirts that match my style. Then I thought, why I don’t sell it. Who knows, maybe there are people who also find it difficult to find a skirt for their daily outfit,” Annisa stated.
Skirtizen, her thrift shop name, has no philosophical meaning. But Annisa explained that it is selected to be easily memorized. Annisa added that although the business she started in 2021 is not quite big now, she is grateful for its performance. She also experienced joys and sorrows when starting the business.
“The hoys, maybe because I sell goods that I also use, so I also use it as outfit reference. The challenge may be (because) I am also studying at university because my university education is my priority as a form of my responsibility to my parents. Besides currently, I am also working on my undergraduate thesis, so (I) need to manage my time well. So, I could manage both the thrift shop and my undergraduate thesis,” Annisa stated.
Lastly, tips from Annisa for those who want to open a thrift shop are to be confident, do not afraid that the goods won’t sell, find unique characteristics for the shop, and ensure that their Instagram feeds are selling by creating interesting content to attract buyers. Humas UNS
