UNS — Two Indonesian Language and Literature Faculty of Cultural Studies (FIB) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta students discussed old Malay manuscripts in the international forum. These students are Delima Novitasari and Bayu Aji Prasetya, who are in their last year’s university program.

In the International Conference Scripts in Asia held by the Asian Center University of the Philippines, they presented Kitab Pengajaran. The international conference held on 27-28 April was joined by experts and researchers from various leading global universities. After passed the selection process, Baru and Delima article was selected as one of the articles to be presented in the forum.

“Kitab Pengajaran is a Malay manuscript that contains moral teaching in daily life. The manuscript is relevant with Al-Qur’an and hadith teachings, but in simpler daily language,” Delima explained on Tuesday (28/4/2021).

She also added that the manuscript is a British Library collection which they accessed through the library’s website bl.uk. The manuscript is written in Jawi letters, transliterated and studied by Bayu in his undergraduate thesis, which they took to formulate their article. Their article focuses on four key points, honesty, paying debt, stay away from usury, and always grateful. They discussed the point using the perspective from the current issues in the community.

Delima and Bayu were delighted to be able to present in the same stage with global professors, doctors, teachers, experts, and researchers from leading universities such as the University of Leiden, Harvard University, Stanford University, University of Hamburg, University of California, Australian University, Yale University, and University of the Philippines.

“It is exciting and delightful to be a presenter in an international event joined by mostly professors and doctors while we are still university students,” she revealed. Humas UNS
