UNS — The Library of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta welcomed a delegation from the Universitas Lampung Library on Monday (7/10/2024). The visit aimed to benchmark best practices in ancient manuscript management, a key focus for the UNS Library’s collections.

During the visit, Dr. Eng. Ir. Khairudin, S.T., M.Sc., Head of the Universitas Lampung Library, was greeted by Riah Wiratningsih, S.S., M.Si., Head of the UNS Library, along with the UNS library management team. Discussions centered around the preservation, digitization, and conservation processes implemented by UNS in managing its ancient manuscripts. The session also emphasized the integration of digital technology in preserving literary heritage.

Dr. Khairudin hoped the visit would provide new insights and ideas for Universitas Lampung’s ancient manuscript management efforts. “We are very impressed with the management practices at the UNS Library, particularly in the conservation and digitization of ancient texts, which will undoubtedly inspire us to enhance our manuscript collection in Lampung,” Dr. Khairudin shared.

Meanwhile, Riah Wiratningsih highlighted that UNS Library has digitized several notable manuscripts, including Naskah Baratayudha, Serat Sandi Wanito, and Serat Soponoloyo, with transliterations provided by their scriptorial team. The visit concluded with a tour of the UNS scriptorial room, as well as a special collections room housing Japanese and Dutch language materials.

“The UNS Library hopes this benchmarking activity strengthens collaboration between our libraries, particularly in the areas of ancient literature preservation and enhanced library services,” Riah remarked.
