UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta granted a Widyatama Parasamya Anugraha Budhaya Award to Waldjinah, an Indonesian Keroncong Music Maestro Artist. The Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, granted the award directly for the Maestro in her house in Surakarta. This ceremony was broadcasted in the Virtual Wayang Kulit Puppet Show in commemorating UNS 45th Anniversary, Saturday (20/3/2021).
A singer whose name well-known through her song “Walang Kekek” (Praying mantis) received UNS Award 2021 for her excellent achievement in the Indonesia Keroncong Music. Waldjinah is consistently and successfully preserving and developing Keroncong music, and brings Indonesia’s proud name on the international stage, including Surakarta.
Her achievements are proved by her 200 albums and 1,700 songs, various brilliant achievements, and prestigious awards. These awards include the Metronome Award a Legendary Keroncong Singer Award in 2006, Inspirative Soloist Artist, Best Duo/Group in Keroncong 18th AMI Award 2015, Keroncong Art Production/Contemporary Keroncong, Best Song AMI Award 2017.
“Mugi Ibu kersa nampi penghargaan menika. Pangajab kula mugi Ibu tetep sehat, dados patuladhan para muda satemah seni keroncong sansoyo ngrembaka (I hope you would accept this award. Hopefully, you continue to be healthy and provides an example for the young generations, and Keroncong can continue to develop),” Prof. Jamal said.
Waldjinah welcomed Prof. Jamal, accompanied by Prof. Djoko Suhardjanto (Chief of UNS 45th Anniversary Celebration), Mrs Budhi Jamal Wiwoho (Head of DWP UNS), and Dr. Deddy Whinata Kardiyanto (Chief of Public Relation and Media Unit UNS). She thanked UNS that in her late age, UNS is still concerned with her achievements.
“Matur nuwun Pak Rektor. Panjenengan-panjenengan tasih mikir dhateng kula. Kula matur nuwun sanget (Thank you, the Rector of UNS. You are all still concerned with me. I am very thankful),” Waldjinah said.
The awarding session grew warmer when Waldjinah sang Walang Kekek and Tanjung Perak for her guests. The songs received a round of applause and hearty smiles.
The award shows UNS commitment in preserving Indonesian cultures, supporting UNS vision to be the Center for science, technology, and art development that excels at the international level based on the noble values of national cultures. Humas UNS
