UNS – Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta conducted an Independence Day Ceremony to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia on Sunday (17/8/2025). The ceremony took place in the courtyard of the UNS dr. Prakosa Rectorate Building. This year, the commemoration carried the national theme “Unity and Sovereignty, Prosperity for the People, Resilience for Indonesia”.
The UNS Rector attended the event along with Vice Rectors, leaders of the Board of Trustees (MWA), the Council of Professors, the Academic Senate, lecturers, education staff, the UNS Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP), and student representatives. The ceremony began with the hoisting of the Bendera Merah Putih by the UNS Flag Hoisting Troop (Paskib) 2025, followed by the solemn reading of the 1945 Proclamation by UNS Rector, Prof. Dr. Hartono, dr., M.Si., who is also the Ceremony Inspector.
Address by Prof. Hartono
The ceremony continued with an address delivered by Prof. Hartono, the Ceremony Inspector. In his address, Prof. Hartono emphasized that the proclamation is a declaration of independence and a mandate to safeguard unity, strengthen sovereignty, and ensure the welfare of the Indonesian people. He highlighted that this year’s theme serves as an important reminder that unity is the foundation for sustaining sovereignty, achieving prosperity, and advancing the nation.
“As emphasized by the President in the State Budget Financial Note (RAPBN) 2026, our nation is working hard to strengthen food, energy, education, health, and defense security for the welfare of the people. Achieving these national aspirations requires collaboration from all elements of the nation, including the vital role of universities,” he stated.
Furthermore, Prof. Hartono emphasized that UNS must make tangible contributions. Such contributions, he noted, should not only be reflected through graduates and publications. More importantly, UNS is expected to contribute by generating knowledge, conducting research that produces innovation, and carrying out community service that directly benefits society and the nation.
In addition, Prof. Hartono expressed his highest appreciation to all the ceremony officers for carrying out their duties well. He also conveyed his gratitude to all participants who attended and followed the ceremony with solemnity. His appreciation concluded his address at the Independence Day Ceremony commemorating the 80th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia at UNS.
“Let us use this moment of independence to reaffirm our commitment to fostering welfare through dedication and service, for a progressive and dignified Indonesia,” he closed.
Recognition of Achievements
On this occasion, UNS also presented awards for various achievements attained by its students. In addition, UNS recognizes the university’s accomplishments. This awarding session marked the ceremony’s ending and highlighted UNS’s commitment to supporting the achievements of its students and the institution.
