UNS – Representatives from the badminton team of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta achieved excellence in the LPTK Cup XXI 2023. The duo of Prof. Dr. Kuncoro Diharjo and Prof. Dr. Sapta Kunta Purnama came out as the first winner in the Executive Doubles A category. This victory was achieved after defeating the pair of Dr. Joseph Philip Kambey and Prof. Dr. Theo Welly Evert Mautang from Universitas Negeri Manado (Unima) in straight sets with scores of 21-15 and 21-13.
Universitas Negeri Malang (UM) hosted this competition for four days, from Sunday (1/10/2023) to Wednesday (4/10/2023). Held at the Platinum Arena, the semifinal and final matches took place in the Executive Singles A, Executive Singles B, and Achievement Singles categories. Prof. Kuncoro and Prof. Sapta Kunta’s victory was a result of their dominant performances.
“I would like to express my appreciation for the organization of LPTK Cup XXI, which featured excellent facilities, infrastructure, and equipment for the games. I believe all the players felt this, especially those who are not professional badminton players. With excellent facilities like these, the competitive atmosphere is elevated,” Prof. Sapta Kunta explained.
Interestingly, Prof. Sapta Kunta, who also serves as the Dean of the Faculty of Sports (FKOR) UNS, and Prof. Kuncoro, who is the Vice Rector for Research and Innovation UNS, partnered together for the first time. Both of them share a passion for badminton, which made their collaboration in the tournament seamless.
“I have been passionate about badminton since I was a child, and I am still involved in badminton management. So, it seems like my life is never far from badminton,” Prof. Sapta Kunta added.
In the previous round of the semifinals, Prof. Sapta and Prof. Kuncoro defeated the UM pair, Prof. Nandang Mufti and Syamsul Bachri, Ph.D.
With the conclusion of this tournament, the LPTK Cup XXI Badminton 2023 has come to an end. The awards ceremony for winners took place during the closing ceremony at Graha Cakrawala UM, Wednesday evening (4/10/2023).
In the sport of tennis, the UNS delegates also achieved excellence. The Rector of UNS, Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho, S.H., M.Hum., and Vice Rector for General Affairs and Human Resources UNS, Prof. Dr. E. Muhtar, S.Pd., M.Si., CFrA., secured third place in the Executive Doubles A category. Humas UNS
