UNS —Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta entered into a collaboration with PT Bank Muamalat Indonesia, Tbk. The collaboration was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the UNS Rector, Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho, S.H., M.Hum., and the CEO of PT Bank Muamalat Indonesia, Tbk, Indra Falatehan, held in-person at the UNS dr. Prakosa Building Meeting Room 1 on Wednesday (10/1/2024).
In his remarks, UNS Rector, Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho, S.H., M.Hum., welcomed the CEO and the team from PT Bank Muamalat Indonesia, Tbk, and the officials of the Hajj Financial Management Authority to the Kampus Benteng Pancasila. The rapid development of the banking sector allows a university to collaborate with the banking industry. “We need to inform you that UNS, as a State Legal Entity Higher Education Institution (PTNBH), has collaborated with six banks. Then, with PT Bank Muamalat Indonesia, Tbk, this marks our 7th collaboration with a bank,” Prof. Jamal explained.
The collaboration between UNS and PT Bank Muamalat Indonesia, Tbk covers education, research, community service, and other fields. UNS hopes that the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) model, currently being promoted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) and specifically by UNS, can be realized with PT Bank Muamalat Indonesia, Tbk.
“We want UNS students to intern at Bank Muamalat. Through these internships, our students can learn how to work in the banking industry, adding to their experience,” he said.
Furthermore, other forms of educational collaboration can include sending Human Resources (HR) from PT Bank Muamalat Indonesia, Tbk, who have not pursued Master’s and Doctoral degrees, to continue their studies at UNS. “If there are employees who haven’t obtained a master’s or doctorate, they can study at UNS. UNS has 47 master’s programs and 23 doctoral programs,” he added.
Prof. Jamal also expressed his hope that banking experts from PT Bank Muamalat Indonesia, Tbk, will contribute to the advancement of UNS by becoming educators with a professional background. “We will provide time and space so that students, especially from the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Faculty of Law (FH), and other faculties, not only learn from academics for banking courses but also from professionals in their field,” Prof. Jamal added.

In terms of research collaboration, it is hoped that after the signing of this memorandum of understanding, there will be research collaboration between UNS and PT Bank Muamalat Indonesia, Tbk. “For example, if PT Bank Muamalat Indonesia, Tbk wants to conduct research on customer satisfaction with PT Bank Muamalat Indonesia, Tbk services, it can be done with UNS lecturers. We hope this collaboration benefits not only one party but both parties,” Prof. Jamal said.
Meanwhile, the CEO of PT Bank Muamalat Indonesia, Tbk, Indra Falatehan, expressed gratitude for the warm welcome from the Rector and the leadership of UNS. “We are happy to be recognized as the 7th bank to collaborate with UNS,” Indra said.
Many aspects can be collaborated upon with PT Bank Muamalat Indonesia, Tbk, considering that the Link and Match between the world of education and the industrial sector is essential. Regarding student internships, PT Bank Muamalat Indonesia, Tbk is open to them because, as a bank, it continually needs fresh graduates from universities to work at PT Bank Muamalat Indonesia, Tbk.
Indra added that PT Bank Muamalat Indonesia, Tbk has obtained permission to disburse the salaries of civil servants (ASN). Even PT Bank Muamalat Indonesia, Tbk has collaborated with PT Taspen. “We want to provide education about Islamic banking. And we are very proud to collaborate with UNS. Hopefully, this collaboration will bring blessings to both parties,” Indra concluded.
