UNS FMIPA’s 28th Dies Natalies: Celebrating Growth, Green Campus Innovations, and Community Spirit

UNS – In celebration of its 28th Dies Natalies, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) in Surakarta welcomed Ridho KDI, a finalist from a popular national dangdut singing competition. Ridho entertained the FMIPA academic community and their families during a Family Gathering event held on Saturday (10/5/2024) in the FMIPA UNS parking area. The gathering was attended by faculty members, staff, their families, and students.

During the event, Ridho KDI performed several songs in a duet with UNS Rector Prof. Dr. Hartono, dr., M.Si., including the songs “Kereta Malam” and “Terajana.” UNS leaders were also in attendance, including Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Alumni Prof. Ir. Dody Ariawan, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., Vice-Rector for Academic and Research Affairs Prof. Dr. Fitria Rahmawati, S.Si., M.Si., and Vice-Rector for Resources Prof. Dr. E. Muhtar, S.Pd., M.Si., CFrA.

The event also marked the inauguration of several facilities by Prof. Hartono, including a solar-powered Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU) located in the motorcycle parking area to support the campus’s green initiatives.

In addition, Prof. Hartono inaugurated a new elevator in FMIPA’s Building B, promoting the faculty’s efforts to be more disability-friendly. Alongside these improvements, he launched Tree Identification Cards (KTP Pohon) and supported the creation of 100 biopore holes.

The Tree Identification Cards allow for easy identification of FMIPA’s diverse plant species by scanning a QR code attached to each tree, providing information about each tree’s type and characteristics.

In his remarks, Prof. Hartono praised FMIPA’s lush, green environment, noting the wide variety of plants surrounding the faculty. “Congratulations to FMIPA on its 28th Dies Natalies. The campus stands out with its ‘ijo royo-royo’ (lush green) surroundings filled with diverse plant species,” Prof. Hartono said.

Prof. Hartono hoped that FMIPA would actively support government programs, particularly food security. He highlighted the government’s new opportunities for student internships, including programs in modern agriculture outside Java, facilitated by partnerships with universities.

“I am confident that FMIPA will continue advancing in achievements and actively participating in the government’s food security program. With developments in applied sciences, more opportunities for students to learn outside campus are opening up,” he concluded.

The Family Gathering wrapped up with a raffle draw, featuring hundreds of prizes, including the grand prizes of an electric motorbike and a Honda Beat motorcycle.
