UNS – The Pancasila Day this year is Commemorated differently in Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta. The academics member of UNS, Monday (1/6/2020) are participating in an online Pancasila Day Commemoration Ceremony.
The participants of the ceremony that consist of the head of the university, senate members, and Echelon I and II staff can participate in the ceremony through a Zoom Cloud Meeting. Meanwhile, Echelon III and IV, academic staff, and academic support staff can participate in the ceremony through UNS Official Youtube Channel.
The Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, in his ceremony speech, expresses his gratitude for the online Pancasila Day Commemoration Ceremony.
“Given the current situation and conditions of the Covid-19 pandemic that requires us to maintain physical distance and comply with health protocols, therefore, this ceremony is conducted online through Zoom Cloud Meeting and Universitas Sebelas Maret Youtube Live Streaming,” said Prof. Jamal.
Uncertainty regarding the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, as said by Prof. Jamal, has caused changes in the order of life of the world community, including Indonesia. The changes, referred to by Prof. Jamal, are the new habit in the community to maintain physical distance, staying home, and the awareness to wear masks when doing some activities or staying outside of the home. Although the new community habits are inevitable as a prevention effort for an individual and others from the danger of COVID-19 transmission, Prof. Jamal considers that the community is starting to get used to and learn the lesson from the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Solidarity, mutual cooperation, and social care through various humanitarian actions, which are manifestations of the values of the Pancasila, are actually carried out everywhere by the community. Their activities show the presence and at the same time strengthen Pancasila. We must understand that this nation stands by the spirit of collectivity, kinship, and camaraderie,” Prof. Jamal continues.
As a ‘Benteng Pancasila’ campus, UNS has demonstrated its real action as an educational institution to play a real role in helping the government and the community in handling the Covid-19 pandemic. The real action was manifested in the form of donations from the lecturers, partner institutions, and community through UNS Care for COVID-19 Movement.
Moreover, there were also donations on Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), hand sanitizers, masks, and ventilators. In community service, during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, UNS also deploys thousands of students to participate in COVID-19 Student Community Service (KKN UNS) that has been held for 2 stages throughout the country.
Toward the end of his speech, Prof. Jamal also mentioned the position of the millennial generation in the midst of the massive technology advancement and the fears that it might have a negative impact if not addressed wisely.
“The massive technology development, which will bring a negative consequence if it is not maintained. They are really creative and innovative with their novelty ideas, living in an era where everything is highly automated and connected, is very susceptible to negative influence,” said Prof. Jamal.
Taking this into consideration, Prof. Jamal asserts the importance of the campus role as a place to instill the noble values of Pancasila into its students’ character and personality.
“Therefore, to fortify and align the good intention of the millennial generation, thus, a campus is a strategic place to instill the noble values of Pancasila as the nation’s view of life through a contemporary system and dynamics, which will be the provision of life and safety of the millennial generation as the future generation,” conclude Prof. Jamal.
