The highlight of the event was a live broadcast of a cardiac ablation procedure from UNS Hospital.

SCF and SOC-HF is the first annual scientific event of its kind in Indonesia, focusing on advancements in heart failure management, sharing experiences, and innovations in treatment. The opening ceremony of SCF and SOC-HF was held at the Grand Mercure Solo Baru Hotel, Sukoharjo, on Saturday (27/7/2024). Attendees included members of the Clinical Advisory Board of the Ministry of Health and the Director of the National Cardiovascular Center Harapan Kita, Dr. dr. Iwan Dakota, Sp.JP (K).

Also present were the President of the Indonesian Cardiovascular Specialist Association, dr. Radityo Prakoso, Sp.JP (K), and the Chairman of the Indonesian Society of Internal Medicine (PAPDI), Dr. dr. Sally Aman Nasution, Sp.PD.-KKV. The event was also attended by UNS Hospital Director, Prof. Dr. dr. Hartono, M.Si., Director of dr. Moewardi General Hospital, Dr. dr. Cahyono Hadi, Sp.OG (K), and hundreds of participants, including specialists, general practitioners, nurses, and medical students from across Indonesia.

This year’s symposium was themed “Great Disruption in Cardiovascular Disease Management, Winner Takes All.” The Chairperson of SCF and SOC-HF 2024, dr. Risalina Myrtha, Sp.JP., noted that SCF and SOC-HF were first held in 2017. “This marks the seventh year of SCF in Solo. The participants, primarily from the Faculty of Medicine, number approximately 500. What sets this year apart is the unprecedented live cardiac ablation session broadcasted from UNS Hospital,” dr. Risalina explained.

Dr. dr. Iwan Dakota emphasized that cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death worldwide. Therefore, the government, in collaboration with professional organizations, cardiologists, and stakeholders, strives to enhance competency for comprehensive patient management.

“I hope this event serves as a platform for sharing knowledge and experiences in heart failure management. I highly appreciate UNS Hospital’s commitment, demonstrated by the opening of a specialized heart failure clinic in 2019. This clinic is the first and only one of its kind in the Central Java-Yogyakarta region,” Dr. Iwan said.

Dr. Iwan stressed the importance of preventive measures against heart disease, advocating for the Healthy Living Community Movement (Germas), which includes exercising and consuming fruits and vegetables.

UNS Hospital Director, Prof. Dr. dr. Hartono, M.Si., remarked that the live cardiac ablation demonstration at UNS was a collaborative effort with the symposium organizers to raise awareness among doctors about the importance of arrhythmia management.

The cardiac ablation demonstration was performed by a team including Dr. dr. Muhammad Munawar, Sp.JP(K), dr. Irnizarifka, Sp.JP(K), and Dr. dr. Mohammad Iqbal, Sp.JP(K). This live demonstration, conducted outside Jakarta for the first time, successfully treated a high-risk patient with Wolf-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome.
