UNSUniversitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Hospital has been honored with an award from the American Heart Association for its outstanding Heart Failure Clinic services. The award was presented in Jakarta on May 4, 2024, as announced by Prof. Dr. Hartono, dr., M.Si., the Director of UNS Hospital, during a press conference at the UNS Hospital Auditorium on the 3rd floor on Thursday (30/5/2024).

“This is not the end or the final result of a process. Instead, it is the beginning of a process with international recognition for our cardiac services. We hope to continuously improve the quality of our services, especially in the Heart Failure Clinic,” Prof. Hartono stated in his remarks.

The UNS Heart Failure Clinic was established in December 2017 and officially began full operations on August 12, 2019. This specialized clinic operates in accordance with the comprehensive heart failure registry (CORE-HF), national and international heart failure symposiums (SOC-HF), and community service initiatives (HEARTALK).

In 2022, the clinic also received recognition from the Mayor of Surakarta and remains the only heart failure clinic in Central Java affiliated with the Indonesian Society of Cardiovascular Specialists (PERKI).

Heart failure incidence in Indonesia is the highest in Asia. From 2017 to 2022, UNS Hospital treated approximately 1.200 heart failure patients, a significant number for the Solo Raya region. Dr. dr. Habibie Arifianto, Sp.JP(K), M.Kes, FIHA, the Head of the Cardiology and Vascular Department at UNS Hospital, and dr. Irnizarifka, Sp.JP(K), FIHA, FAPSC, FAsCC, the Head of the Catheterization Laboratory at UNS Hospital, are committed to providing safe cardiac care.

“UNS Hospital has standardized cardiac care services, aiming for heart failure patients to experience improvement after treatment. The hospital has also successfully reduced heart failure mortality and recurrent hospitalizations since 2017,” Dr. Habibie explained during a media question-and-answer session.

The recognition from the American Heart Association acknowledged the Heart Failure Clinic’s consistency from 2017 to 2023. This includes consistent patient care, the availability of medication, and adherence to international dosage standards. “UNS Hospital also identifies and addresses the etiology or causes of heart failure at their root using standard equipment,” Dr. Habibie added.

dr. Irnizarifka, Sp.JP(K), FIHA, FAPSC, FAsCC, further mentioned that UNS Hospital continues to treat patients according to international standards and publishes these practices in scientific journals. “This has shown that the annual mortality rate for heart failure patients at UNS Hospital is 7.4 percent, which is very low compared to European and Asian registry data,” dr. Irnizarifka noted.

UNS Hospital is also one of four hospitals and the only type C hospital to receive this award from the American Heart Association.
