UNS Hosts the National Virtual Pencak Silat Championship

UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta hosts the 2020 National Inter-College Championship (Kejurnas) Pencak Silat Virtual on the Single and Group Category. The national championship was held by the Student Association (UKM) Tapak Suci UNS which took place in Postgraduate Hall UNS, Sunday (20/9/2020).

The Coach of UKM Pencak Silat UNS, Dr. Rony Syaifullah stated that in line with the theme in the event, ‘Break To The Limit To Be a Winner”, the national championship aims to increase the enthusiasm of fighters that with the limitation in the pandemic is not a reason to stop achieving something. The championship was followed by participants from 11 provinces in Indonesia, including Central Java, East Java, West Java, DKI Jakarta, Lampung, Yogyakarta, Bali, South Sulawesi, East Kalimantan, West Kalimantan, Papua and 14 universities with a total of 69 athletes.

“Considering the pandemic, all committee and juries applied health protocol suggested by the government,” Dr. Rony explained. The championship was started with an opening ceremony through zoom meeting and broadcasted live in UNS Faculty of Sports YouTube channel. The virtual championship was opened by the Vice-Rector for Students and Alumni Affairs UNS, Prof. Kuncoro Diharjo.

The virtual matches were held not long after the opening ceremony and divided into three sessions, starting from 09.40 WIB to 14.51 Western Indonesia Time. In the championship, as host, UNS donated 7 medals for 1st place and 2nd runner-up in the men’s singles category, 1st place and 3rd runner-up in the women’s singles category, 2nd place and 3rd place winner in the men’s team category, 3rd place and 2nd runner-up in the women’s category.

“This achievement is admirable and I appreciated UNS Team that won many matches even amid the Covid-19 pandemic,” Dr. Rony added.

After the match is finished, it is followed by a closing ceremony as well as the announcement of the winners. The closing of the Virtual Pencak Silat National Championship was carried out by the Dean of the Faculty of Sports (FKOR) UNS, Dr. Sapta Kunta Purnama who conveyed his highest appreciation for all universities that participated in the championship amid the pandemic.
