UNS – Thousands of new students of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta in year 2019 wholeheartedly participated in public lecture with Diasporas at G.P.H. Haryo Mataram UNS Auditorium, Saturday (08/17/2019). This lecture took “Being a Global Citizen” as the topic. It was one of the series activities of 2019 UNS New Students Orientation Program (PKKMB).
Attending as the speakers were: Dr. Bagus Putra Muljadi, an Indonesia young man who is an Assistant Professor at the University of Nottingham, UK; and Prof. Kouchi Kaoru, an Indonesianist (foreigners having interest in Indonesia and in the development of Indonesia intellectually) who has been 25 years conducting researches of Indonesian political history, from Kanda University of International Studies, Japan. Both of them motivated and inspired UNS new students about international knowledge and global understanding as the global citizens.
Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Ahmad Yunus, said that UNS students had to own a dream to be global, develop in international level so that they could follow the footsteps of the two Diasporas above. To be a citizen of this world, we must respect and keep diversity.
“Hopefully, the presence of these diasporan speakers can be your role model and motivation to accomplish not only national achievements but also the international ones. And what makes us very proud, even though they live abroad of Indonesia for a very long time, their spirit of nationalism is passionate,” he expressed. Humas UNS/Try
