UNS — The Faculty of Engineering (FT) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held Ramadan Study 1442 Hijriah by inviting the Head of Master Program in English Education, Prof. Dr. Joko Nurkamto, M.Pd., as a speaker to discuss the “Direction of Islamic Education”. The discussion was held online through the Zoom Cloud Meeting and FT UNS YouTube Channel and offline on FT UNS campus on Wednesday (21/4/2021). The discussion was opened with a recitation of Al-Qur’an by M. Hadziq Munajih, a Civil Engineering Program FT UNS student, and was listened to by all participants.
The Dean of FT UNS, Dr. Techn. Ir. Sholihin As’ad. M.T., in his remark, mentioned his hope that this event can build togetherness and bind UNS academic members together. He also invited participants to continue to pray and hope that all worships performed will bring them into pious people. “In building togetherness, we bring UNS into a campus that contributes to the country and the world. Hopefully, we will istiqomah in our fasting and (God) forgives our sins, grants us with blessings, and hopefully, in this Ramadan, we become muttaqin person,” Dr. Sholihin stated.
The Rector of UNS, Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho, S.H., M.Hum., thanked and appreciated FT UNS for its preparation in the event. He also mentioned that the event was held on Kartini Day that commemorates Indonesian women’s emancipation. The Rector also passed the news that UNS received 201-300 Global Rank in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Ranking. “Hopefully, with Ramadan spirit, we can love, work harder, and enjoy the beauty of Ramadan through our activities during the day and the night,” Prof. Jamal said.
Dr. Mugi Harsono S.E, M.Si., Vice-Dean for Planning, Partnership, Business, and Information Affairs Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UNS, served as the moderator of the event. Prof. Joko, in his speech, reminded the participants to come back and submit and surrender to Allah SWT. Worships as a form of submission and obedience to Allah is a form of believing His existence and His characters (asma’ul husna) and admit as a weak creation.
Prof. Joko further explained that obedience starts with syahadat that should be read by someone entering Islam. “Recognition of Allah is said in the form of syahadat,” Prof. Joko explained. Similar statement is also mentioned in the shalat four times, iftitah, fatihah, sujud, and tasyahud. Teachers have the responsibility to remind people about what they have uttered.
The sincerity of worship is defined as someone who meets Allah’s rights, is reflected in their physical obedience, spiritual muraqabah, and always feels His presence. Prof. Joko also shared the tips for perfect worship for Allah by disregarding people’s perceptions and only focuses on Allah’s view. “Forget their greetings for you by seeing Allah’s greetings for you,” Prof. Joko said.
