UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta student achieved another proud accomplishment. This time a student from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) UNS won the HK Exper Talk Call for Essay. The student is Riki Purwanto from State Administration Science Program. In the announcement on Tuesday (13/4/2021), he won 2nd place for student and university students in the multisectoral theme.
In the competition held by PT. Hutama Karya (Persero), Riki Purwanto won over his competitors from Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) Surabaya, Universitas Negeri Malang, and Universitas Prasetiya Mulya with his essay on “Kartsamp: Waste as Toll Road Payment Alternatives and Renewable Energy Source based on Collaborative Governance to Achieve Golden Indonesia”. The essay is written because he wants to discuss the collaborative governance concept he learned during his study. “The reason for this title is to match with the theme and the issues of toll road users who are littering,” Riki Purwanto said.
Riki said that his essay covers the discussion on low renewable energy usage and toll road user’s behavior. He devised an idea of Kartsamp as an alternative for toll road payments by exchanging waste to waste bank in every rest area. This idea aims to reduce littering behavior and to use waste as toll road payment alternatives. “Then it can be used as a valuable good with economic values and renewable energy source in PLTSa (waste-based power plant) nearby,” he explained. Riki Purwanto added that the waste bank could receive various types of waste to be exchanged with e-wallet credit.
HK Exper Talk Call for Essay competition has stringent selection stages. In the competition held on January 2021, Riki Purwanto competed with 1,345 participants from 85 High Schools, 225 universities in Indonesia, and 12 global universities from nine countries. Riki mentioned that the competition was challenging, and in the Best 50, they were asked to make a two-minute video. “Alhamdulillah, I went through the Best Ten,” he said.
In the Best Ten, he was asked to deliver his idea using one presentation slide in only two minutes presentation. The assessment was conducted by an Expert Policy Analyst of the Ministry of PUPR, Dr. Fx. Hermawan Kusumartono and Vice President BIM System Division, IT and Technology Research PT. Hutama Karya (Persero), Rizky Agung Saputra.
Riki stated that he is grateful for the achievement and the knowledge he got, which he couldn’t learn from the class. After the competition, he wants to focus on preparing for life after university, including job hunting, but it doesn’t close the possibility of participating in other competitions. Humas UNS
