UNS – A glorious news was received by the Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta after the Minister of Research and Technology/National Research and Innovation Agency (Kemenristek/BRIN) announces that the research proposal proposed by UNS has passed the selection for the COVID-19 Research and Innovation Consortium Program.
Responding to the Announcement Number: B/1/ F2/PI. 01.00/2020 regarding the Proposed Activity Recommended for Funding Under the COVID-19 Research and Innovation Consortium Stage 1, the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, claims that he is grateful for the results received by UNS.
“Alhamdulillah, from the funding (red: Kemenristek/BRIN), UNS can participate together with 13 proposals and UNS research proposal finally passed to be funded,” said Prof. Jamal when met in his office on Thursday (28/5/2020).
As quoted from the official website of Kemenristek/BRIN at ristekbrin.go.id/covid19/, the COVID-19 Research and Innovation Consortium Program is aimed to answer the needs of the Indonesian citizen in fighting COVID-19, in the form of product and research that leads to innovation. This year, the Kemenristek/BRIN budgeted a total of Rp 60,899,405,715 funds for the COVID-19 Research and Innovation Consortium Program. From the total funds, UNS obtain a research funding of Rp 2,342,778,337.
“When the COVID-19 outbreak first hit at the beginning of March, the step we took is to establish this consortium immediately, on one hand, it is bottom-up, on the other hand, it is top-down. Bottom-up means each university or institution has a proposal on research, development, assessment, and application (Litbangirap) that related to COVID-19,” said Prof. Bambang Brodjonegoro, quoted from ristekbrin.go.id/covid19/.
As one of the educational institutions, UNS shows its contribution as a party that assists the handling of COVID-19 pandemic through several research proposals. Along with UNS, there are 16 state universities and 2 private universities that are members of the COVID-19 Consortium.
In the First stage of the COVID-19 Research and Innovation Consortium, UNS research proposals that declared passed are: “Implementation of Apium graveolens L Supplementation in Pregnancy to Prevent COVID-19” chaired by Prof. Ahmad Yunus, “Universitas Sebelas Maret Portable Ventilator” chaired by Ubaidillah, Ph.D., and “The Ideal Model of National Resilience Through RT and RW In Implementing Large-Scale Social Restrictions, as an Effort to Stop the Spread of COVID-19” chaired by Dr. Sunny Ummul Firdaus.
Moreover, a proposal proposed by Prof. Jamal on the program is also passed. The proposal prepared together with UNS Mathematician, Dr. Sutanto entitled “Mathematical Model of 100 Days Scenario of Corona Virus Spread in Indonesia and its Legal Review”.
“I discuss, mathematically, the 100 days of the COVID-19 handling and its legal aspect, in collaboration with a mathematician. The situation after 100 days, whether the peak is flattened,” said Prof. Jamal. Humas UNS/Yefta
